None of the coins you showed are rare. You just showed standard coins we use every day in AUS (except the 1c and 2c coins which are no longer in circulation).

I remember learning all about these when we switched currencies in 1966, but interesting to see them with fresh eyes from the perspective of a non-Australian.

My mother has referred to them as spiny anteaters but usually we call them echidnas. "ee-kid-nah". Some of our pronunciations probably make you think, "How do they get that from that???" 😝 But anyway... The Emu we pronounce "ee-m-yoo". The sound "m" makes we combine with "yoo" so it sounds like "myoo". "ee-myoo". The frilled neck lizard is pretty common in the outback (desert) and it is showing it's threat display on the 2 cent coin. It is pretty harmless though and only does it as a defence display running towards you on two legs to scare off would be predators before running away. The Superb Lire Bird on the 10 cent piece is showing it's display it uses when it performs on its mound of built up debris where it will drape it's long tail feathers over its head (which take on the shape of the musical instrument "lire" like a harp) and mimic anything from whip birds to chainsaws and kookaburras. It's song is so superb it sometimes sounds better than the original bird species. The sound has been described as "silvery" it's so crisp and perfect and echo's through the bush (forrest). And we pronounce the Lire Bird as "lie-er". It's eye you can see if you follow the left side of the zero straight down. You got the feather tail glider right! 👍 And the platypus you almost pronounced the same as us, just the "pus" part we pronounce more like calling your cat like "puss puss" and less like squeezing a pimple "puss". And yeah, I hope that's helpful. I wish I could think of a better analogy for that last one.. Lol
@graemeallen38935 жыл бұрын
It's called an echidna it has sharp spikes all over it's back and rolls up into a small ball and then it is safe from being attacked by other animals. A smart animal won't bother it ,or it just gets jabbed by the spins. Long nose to get into ant nests which it lives on. This is why people call them ant eaters.

@stevenbalekic56836 жыл бұрын
Fifty cents is used just as much as all the coins, except the two bronze ones which are discontinued. Also the echidna is pronounced. ee kid na. Also all these designs are still produced today. The kangaroo and eem you, are not holding the coat of arms, they are part of it.

Steven Balekic So they still make the frilled lizard coin and tailed glider (1) just not for circulation?
@69digs596 жыл бұрын
You are wrong about the 1 and 2 cent coins. Stop making up stuff. They are not even bronze but are 97% Copper, 2.5% Zinc and 0.5% Tin. They were phased out due to the loss of purchasing power and cost of producing them.
@stevenbalekic56836 жыл бұрын
@@memoryrinehart Yes, you can only (sometimes) get the one and two cent coins in uncirculated and proof from the mint or dealers. But they are not used and aren't legal tender anymore.

@hycart78045 жыл бұрын
According to the Royal Australian Mint, NO 50 cent coins were produced in 1967. If you have one with that date, it is either a forgery, or you have something which should not exist, and therefore is worth shit loads.
@chriso66664 жыл бұрын
Yep none were minted for circulation, but possibly minted as a set for collectors. Still it would be worth shit loads.

Everyone complaining that these coins aren't rare, stop a moment, listen to the entire video, reread the title to see if it can be interpreted any other way, and if you're still convinced this guy is totally wrong and you need to call him out on it, just like the last 50 people commenting, then by all means leave your polite feedback. The title says rare coins to look out for. He does NOT say these are all rare coins 🙄 and it's evident to those who have watched the full video that he points out which coins are rare due to defects as he moves up through the denominations ... Jesus, why do millennials feel the need to constantly feed their superiority complexes and point out where you think others are wrong? I thought the video was good mate and interesting too 👍🏼

The kangaroo and emu are on the Australian coat of arms because neither animal can go backwards Australia always GOES forward.
@cameronforsyth48424 жыл бұрын
5 cent animal pronounced ekidna. Australian version of porcupine 10c lyre bird mimics other birds chirps Every denomination of 50c except 50c weighs 1 ounce. E.g.. 5c+ 5c+ 10c+10c+20c =50c= 28.3grams. The 50c picture is the Australian national emblem. The kangaroo and emu (eem-you) are both native animals to the continent. They both appear on the emblem because neither animal can walk backwards. So we always strive forward.

Checking my coins in 2024 EEE KID NAH. (Sonic the hedgehog) On the five cents. The Lyre bird can imitate anything including car horns, machinery and the zoom lens and shutter on a camera. Ten cents. Platypus is a monotremes. That animal is a one off. 20 cent piece Australian coat of arms is beautifull and official af. It does however have a lovely branch of yellow flowering Acacia Wattle. One of many native trees that contain more DMT than Ayahuasca. Frilled neck lizards. Bearded dragons and giant cane toads are a favourite critter to round up and race at the pub on a Sunday in Queensland. I hav pennies and foreign coins to check so I'm subscribed.
