This was the first time that the loop was used since 1997 so it has been more than 25 years since. Go on any eastbound Gov’t Center train through March 8th and experience the history for yourself. This was due to closures on the Union Square and Medford Branch on the GLX to eliminate slow zones. So trains from Union Square or Medford/Tufts used the often unused Brattle Loop track to turn around at Gov’t Center and head back to Union Square. Here, we see a single Type 8 car, #3862, using the track to turn around and head back to Union Square in Somerville. It’s called the Boston Subway’s weirdest track and the third track at Gov’t Center.
