Disclaimer: I haven't played SFV for anything resembling a decent amount of time SFV's animations just look, IDK, "stiffer" compared to SFIV. They seem to "flow together" better and more "expressively". Also, the fact there are less mechanical options (maybe more system mechanics, but less freeform options) available to mix things up on combo or pressure, this results in everything feeling more "samey" between player to player. Less player expression potential.
@Ralkila2 жыл бұрын
@@TechSY730 That's right , in USF4 you could have 3 players using the same character and most of their play style being different. From harder combos like consistent 1 framers to character knowledge and crazy confirms or setups and the 3 were killers. Although the mission of SFV was exactly that , to close the skill gap and you don't need to train as hard as before. In that regard i think SFV is better than 4 bringing new blood to the fgc. If SF6 is even a close thing i would like if they recover some freedom and if they want to retain some friendly quality of life things, also to remove the intended input lag. Notice that guilty gear aimed for this same formula with the new one, past guilty gear games were not just beautiful but demanding mechanically and that made i t a thing to consider while buying it.
@TechSY7302 жыл бұрын
@@Ralkila Funny thing is that it is possible to have a decently low execution barrier, _and_ a high skill ceiling + player expressiveness Is it hard to do that? Very. Good game design is very hard. But you would expect a 5 billion dollar company, one of the OGs of the fighting game genre, to be able to figure it out.
@TechSY7302 жыл бұрын
A point about my comment about animations before. My experience is very tinted by my impressions from early SFV, where many really were just straight up bad. These days this has apparently been polished _a lot_ , though I contend that while overall SFV animations now look better in isolation, you still get some "stiffness" when linking/canceling them together _sometimes_

Feeling a lot of nostalgia seeing some old tricks and glitches show up again, much appreciated Desk! If anyone's wondering about the Adon super glitch showed off in this video a couple of times (e.g. 0:36), it's something that was found in Super SF4! Basically, if the third attack in Adon's super lands as a counter hit, instead of triggering the "hitstun" reaction of the opponent, it's coded to trigger the "standing medium kick" script! This means the person getting hit incurs no hitstun and can potentially combo off the standing medium kick, if possible (see the C.Viper example in this video at 1:35). It's pretty cool that you can still access the glitched behaviour from Edition Select in USF4! Desk did a video on it more than 10 years ago: kzbin.info/www/bejne/rJSViWWDqcxgmbs

@@sethxtekken yea SFV intentionally dumbed down too many things in order to make it more “accessible” for beginners-an entirely profit-driven decision-yet capped the skill ceiling too low that there’s little to set high level players apart from mid level ones. The infamous crush counter makes it way too easy to land high damage combos, and even more ridiculous is CC occurs during recovery frames of DPs, when blocked/whiffed DPs already are highly punishable in the first place and non-EX versions have no 1f invincibility, making the punishment completely disproportionate and overly favoring offense, all because they wanna create more hypes for eSports tournaments since players are forced to go on offense more often-and this only appears more exciting to audiences who have little knowledge of the game, because they don’t know why well strategized defense is just exciting to watch. SFV also removed close/far standing normals because it was “too hard for beginners” 🤦🏻 even though they phrased it as how buttons couldn’t be fully utilized when not in the right distance, which is complete BS, because this should be the fundamentals for any semi skilled player. VT also has long-arse freeze time for reaction and inputs… not to mention all the efforts are put into making more DLC contents all while cutting budgets on cutscene arts and rival openings, etc. literally every decision is purely made to maximize profit and make it more hyped for non-skilled audiences to watch… just garbage

@@eggimage omg man what a garbage fighting game. The thing that even makes me sick more is other games just want to cooy that retarded system of esport i can see some in Guilty Gear Strive and MK11 all of them just want to make it for beginners when they know that low skill gap ceiling is just wont last long in terms of excitement, it literally kill your excitement in 1 month because you feel there are nothing to explore

It's an armour cancel. If you do a special, super, ultra, throw, or taunt on the same frame that you absorb an attack via armour, it instantly cancels into that move. You don't necessarily have to use Focus to do it - Boxer can do it with his EX Dash Upper (I think - whichever one had the armour on it)
