I have been holding on to this since I did this performance with David in 1993. This is the only copy that exists of this performance as the show timed out before we performed. This is a rare glimps into the warm, funny, talented and charming David that I knew. This performance features:
Mat Gurman: Guitar/Vocals/Musical Director
Mark Levang: Keyboards
Billy Hanes: Bass/Vocals
Lynn Colter: Drums/Vocals
This recording was in pretty rough shape and hard to stabilize. As noted, the camera ran out of tape and cartridge was replaced during performance. I edited accordingly to my best ability. I am posting this for the enjoyment of Davids MANY loyal fans on the occasion of his receiving a star on the Las Vegas "Walk of Stars".

He was my sweetheart from 1970 until the sad day he passed. I have his entire catalog. I also have the entire Partridge Family catalog and all 5 seasons of the show on DVD. Kitty I myself am an international singer songwriter today... from UK I was asked to take a friend of my mothers to Manchester to see David in concert ,,, and since that time way back in the 70's there has been no artist in my opinion who had al the attributes David had, in ways of looks stage presence and sheer musicality coupled with the unique talent makes him one of the greatest artists ever! .... I do think he was appreciated, but the problem being those who simply could not recognise his absolute genius.... Dave lives on ! xx Nigel H Seymour

@@MatGurman Yes, he really had an amazing kind of sparkle, didn't he. Lots of demons, as we know, but there were times like this where he could give from the heart and perform in a way that was quite beautiful, playful, not taking himself too seriously, with a kind of freedom -- and control -- that was really incredible. I can't say much more technically because I know almost nothing about singing or music, but I'm pretty sure he was great. Thank you so much for making it possible for us to see this.

@@MatGurman It reminds me of the first time I heard his recording of "If I didn't care" , miles removed from any Partridge Family or rock songs he performed and recorded when he was still in his twenties, displaying just how much control of his voice he had and understanding for the feel of that style of song at such a young age. It is such a crying shame that he isn't more recognized as the great and versatile vocalist he was. "The Higher they climb, the harder they fall" and "Home is where the heart is" are still 2 of my favourite albums of all-time where he shows he can really rock. David was a rare gem. This is the kind of music he always wanted to play but the Partridge Family people wouldn’t let him. He had to cater to teen heartthrob music they wanted. There’s more videos that has him playing his music. Gone to soon. If I could I would start a campaign against alcohol in some way. Alcohol has taken 5 people from my family starting with my husband who was only 35. The last was my nephew who always told me I was more of a mom to him than his own mom. He was 33. I’m struggling so hard still trying to deal with his passing. It was 6 months ago. There’s not one day that I don’t just breakdown in a flood of tears. He was my baby. I don’t think I’ll get thru this one. It’s too hard. 🦋🦋🦋

This was really David's kind of music...one of his favorites was BB King. He chose to go the bubblegum/pop route, but his heart was elsewhere. RIP, David ♡

Your comment is spot on. He told me he was very into Jimi Hendrix and he would have loved to have more guitar chops. He would bust into a bluesy riff every once in a while. He was always experimenting with his rig also, working on getting a great rock sound because it was important to him. He had to resolve himself that people wanted the nostalgia. He tried to reinvent through more contemporary music but he knew what people wanted from him. He was very aware of different styles of music and could get into different styles effortlessly. We did a reggae version of I think I love you for the “This is your life” show. It was a great idea and all his. Most fans did not embrace it. Sad. It’s up on KZbin. Smoldering version. He was sick that morning with a sore throat but you would never know it cause he was such a pro.
