1) Sir, your videos are highly addictive . 2) This particular one has inspired a travel bucket list entry... an old dude, his (now) tiny baby... in full hazmat suits.... one day like 10 years from now. 3) Question: HAVE you ever come down with an illness endemic to some of these areas/had an allergic reaction to any of these fruits? Thanks again for your inspiring films.

@ time 6.49 I spotted a smiley face on your fruit. It was sharing a happy moment with you!! I thought I should share, I absolutely love your realism and your connection to the viewer. I know you are about the foods but I also love to see the culture and markets that you show. I have also wondered if you would get into eating the flowers of things. I would recommend that you do your research into that FIRST before you try them. I found out after the fact as a kid some are not really good for you to eat. Where others are really really wonderful to eat. I would like to send you some that I know are safe and nice for you to try. Would you be able to reply and let me know an address or something that I could send them to you over night when they are in season? I would also like to send you with a list of books that I think you might like for plants native that have many many things to them. I love Yarrow but I can not get past that astringent bitter taste. yet it is an antiseptic for wounds and a quick stop for blood, and with the small pink tubers you can make a tea that helps digestion for those that struggle with some issues. PLWASE let me know. I love your channel and have shared it with my dietitian and friends. I even was able to try Jag fruit with a friend that has thyroid issues. She did not have much but she did feel a difference with the next day. Once again thank you so much for everything you do. I would like to know if you have the same rare genetic condition called Ehlers-Danlos syndrome. It affects the elasticity of your skin and joints. I used to have a blast with people trying to tie me into knots that I "could not" get out of. No one was able to knot me up on myself to not be able to undo. lol I also wonder about your esophagus with that amazing sword eating trick.

I tried a similar fruit in Florida, called balsam pear. I found them growing wild, didn't know what they were at the time, so I only tried a little nibble. I remember the red seeds were sweet, not much flavor. Don't remember what the orange flesh was like, either sour or bitter, I think. This was over 20 years ago, so a bit hazy.

Gac Fruit is Momordica Cochinchinensis, the fruit you reviewed looks like Momordica Balsamina, same genus ( obviously ) in the cucurbitaceae family ( Melons, cucumbers etc.)

we have Momordica here in Florida. From what I've been told, it's only safe to eat when it's still green.
@WeirdExplorer8 жыл бұрын
I've only seen it for sale orange and ripe, so I'm pretty sure its alright. But maybe the rind is edible green?
@PaigeDWinter8 жыл бұрын
I think it might depend on the kind of Momordica also. www.eattheweeds.com/bitter-gourd-balsam-pear-pharmacy-on-a-fence/ is a good article on the ones we have here. Edible rind when green, and the red flesh around the seeds is edible, but the inner seeds are toxic. I actually snagged a few burst pods today to plant in my yard. I'm excited about it!

To me the first fruit looks a lot more like the fruit of passiflora caerula than anything in the momordica family, especially since their key feature tends to be spiky-ness. Although I do not think caerulea gets that large, maybe some from of caerulea and giant granadilla hybrid as I know the giant granadilla's seeds look quite like that. Do you know what the plant you got it off of looked like? If it was a vine, and more specifically if it was a vine with waxy leaves with three "prongs" then I'd assume it's in the passiflora family.
@WeirdExplorer8 жыл бұрын
it does look a bit like the Passiflora caerulea, but yeah the fruit and seeds are too big and the seed shape looks very similar to gac. I've never had giant granadilla, but from photos the seeds look quite different. There are other momordica species that don't have bumps on them.

I would like to see a comprehensive review of the best PUM-mel-o's in the Borneo, Sarawak, Bali sort of area and also the Pummelos, or the Thai word, so-MO! the Somo's of Thailand, including Thong Dee and perhaps some glance at Japan's Hirado Buntan. I'VE never tasted a Pummelo myself that holds a candle to the Tahitian so-called "Pamplemousse" which means grapefruit in French, but which is clearly the best, not grapefruit, but pummelo, in the world, I daresay the very best CITRUS fruit in the world, but which few have ever really savored the way it should be savored and famed for its extreme quality, often the size of a bowling ball, with soft, juicy limeade tasting segments that can be spooned out like a grapefruit's instead of cut around through the surrounding thick pith of your IMHO inferior pummelos...because actually there is remarkably scant pith to deal with on this so called 'Mauna Lua" pummelo as the botanists list it or seem to list it. I await your comprehensive investigation to once and for all clear up all mysteries now surrounding the world's pummelos.
@WeirdExplorer5 жыл бұрын
I saw pomelo quite a bit while traveling throughout SE asia. Especially since I was usually there during Chinese New Year. Honestly the couple times I tried it, it was subpar.
