When I was 13 features like augmented reality games, camera and GPS were awesome. The biggest reason it failed must have been that the boss was involved with the mafia. The companies made so few games even before Gizmondo was on the market.

Oh, GPS will work still, you need to have a SIM card plugged into it for it to work for some bizarre reason.

That's a great question. I've never tried it to be honest. My guess is probably not, but I'll try it out and let you know.

Yeah $40 is a great deal for this system! There were only 8 games released for this system though, so keep that in mind.

Tiger Telematrics dropped support of the GPS and texting when they stopped making this system sadly.

I had such high hopes for this hand held. I was real excited about the many ways developers could incorporate the GPS functionality into their games.

Trail Blazer looks awesome. I wish it would be ported to any other consoles, like the PSP/PSV or as a PSN/Wii download... Hell, even Steam would be fine.

Did you know that when the Gizmondo was released they actually sold a premium battery? You can tell if the system has it or not because the battery covers look different, and if you have the premium battery due to the larger size of the battery and cover you can actually stand up the system.

The games remind me a lot of the PSX graphics. It wasn't a great system, but it is unique in it's own way.

I remember when I got one for Christmas. It's a nice bit of kit. A bit rough around the edges but it had potential.

I remember going in to Gizmondo's flagship store some years back at Oxford Circus in London. I knew i wanted one at the time but before I knew it the store wernt there anymore and none of my nearest game stores sold a gizmondo Im still trying to find a cheap gizmondo and N gage

It was going to be called the Game Trac, but they were infringing on another name. I owned two in the end, one was lent to me by Tiger themselves when I used to present gamign shows on TV. But I bought a second last year off Dr. Ashens of all people.

i remember this as well as another console that was advertised alot back in i think 03 and i wanted it so bad and before i knew it they stopped making them and everyone forgot about them. i think its pretty cool and ahead of its time

Please help me!! Just got one off ebay and i think the batterys dead. It loads then shuts down everytime..i cant even run it off the mains. Without being plugged in theres no power atall coming from the battery. I have no idea what to do

I just found an old games magazine from 2005 with a huge mobile gaming devices comparison. They compared GBA, NDS, PSP, Nokia N-Gage, Handy(Sony Ericsson K750i), Pocket-Pc AAAAAND Gizmondo. Back than they predicted that it will fail because of no 3rd Party Games and they had problems with getting it into the shops... A widescreen Gizmondo was also planned for mid 2006. It's very interesting to read those old magazines :D

The GPS does work on it just update it to Service pack 2 and it will work just fine plus you will be able to run emulators on it and all other games that never made it to market .

Why doesn't gps work anymore? Any gps ever made should still work. Have you tried it outside (gps doesn't work indoors)?

You said the gps doesn't work "anymore", why not? Is it broke? The gps system is totally independent of any individual gps receiver. Unless your machine is broken, it should work just fine, but you have to be outside.

is the gps broken or is it just cause its the uk version it wont work in states. would ahve been an amazing handheld if it had of been advertised right etc. i actually remeber this coming out i always wanted one lol

The idea for the Gizmondo isn't bad, however, it needs much better hardware for better game performance and the console exterior needs to be enlarged along with the screen. A simple example of this is the fact that while Quake can actually run on a Gizmondo, the fps is choppy. Get it to run Crysis or Quake, reduce the price, and THEN maybe someone will give it a thought.

I had the origional Trailblazer game for the Spectrum 48k. But you controlled a ball, and it looked a lot slower and easier than the one you're playing. It was a lot of fun, but not as pretty as the one you're playing...

I had the origional Trailblazer game for the Spectrum 48k. But you controlled a ball, and it looked a lot slower and easier than the one you're playing. It was a lot of fun, but not as pretty as the one you're playing... Pity it died, it looks like a good piece of kit...

nice video mate, good to see the Gizmondo again. It was a fun time but was also hell, lol; although it was never boring working for them that was for sure. I was the producer on Sticky Balls, and Trailblazer, which are both true classics, a big shame they were killed off by the Gizmondo debacle :(, I also produced Richard Burns Rally.

What size SD cards does it support? Back in 2005, I'm willing to bet it only supported up to 2GB or so. IF today's 32GB cards won't work for it, it's useless.

I agree this isn't a good system, but you have to compare apples to apples, and though the Gameboy is much better then this system, they're not comparable.

I think the Gizmondo is somewhat impressive, even though for most people it's now obsolete. It's kinda like having the abilities of a PSP except that it can only play cartridge-based games.

could use it as a gps & sat nav had all most off the all feature available at the time at a more reasonable price. it was previewed as early as 2003 & was delayed for a long time eventually out in 2005 before the psp, but there were pre orders in 2004 for a pre xmas release which it missed i know 2 that expected one in their xmas stocking its the long delay & dodgy nature of the company owner, gave the system little confidence, low sales & support it was pretty advanced handheld tech for its day

Can you imagine as a child you so want a Nintendo DS or a PSP for christmas. Your mum and dad hinting away that they might of got you a "handheld console" for christmas. You count down the days then on Christmas you run down the stairs to where all the presents are and eagerly open the one that you think may hold your "Handheld Console". Upon opening it you discover that it's a Gizmondo... Oh my, the dissapointment on that childs face whilst the parents think they've made his day!
