I have owned a 613 G for about 20 years. Picked it up cheap from a college kid who graduated and did not need the bass any more. I do however play it in the G/D mode as that is how I learned. I guess you could call me a Denson Paul Pollard follower ! It works well for a lot of the marches etc. that we play. yes upper range is a little tough.

Yup, they are good horns, and I can deal with the high range. But it's nice to have a horn that makes it easier!

630 seems more "commercially" sounding (crisper sound) from your description. There have been a lot of Japan only models that are interesting ( in between attempts or maybe not? dunno) and this seems like the precursor to the Xeno line. I couldn't tell on the 630G for sure but the 2nd valve on the Xeno 830 spins the same direction as the first (old 830-822g instruction video). There is a new model this year, YBL-835G, very interesting if you can get a test play on it. The leadpipe is different on the 835, first time it goes in not as deep.

Yes, it has more of a commercial feeling to it, but also not fully in that direction. It's a very cool horn. I decided I'm keeping it! I will be interested to try a 835G, though no xeno model has ever blown me away.

My Holton TR181 is trash and I want to replace it. I tried looking for a 613 but can’t find any for sale so I might resort for a 613G, does it play any worse or have any differences than a 613?

613G is exactly the same as the 613, but with a rose brass bell. They're great too, I have two friends with them and they play pretty much exactly the same as mine but sound like they have rose bells. They're also the same as my 630G- just the 630 has an open wrap.

Hey Aiden, any idea of a bach 50 or edwards slide fits a Yamaha bass like that 630(both single bore and dual bore)?

630G, 613H- yes. They have Bach connector and I think Bach threads. 613 and 613G- no. They have a different connector.
