I know this video is old But I'm glad that you brought up the question of LED lighting as my old Apollo Mk4 Base has really sensitive receiver (That's a Good thing) and when ever i look over it with my LED light magnifying glass it picks up on it Funny. So it leads me to this question when servicing a light out situation on an old CB like in my case the bulb has blown on the meter and most i see replace with a New LED type But i like warm glow of the old incandescent bulb would putting a new LED one in there cause more noise Level? Or are the New replacements better Now?

Hi Brenton. George here in Ireland. that was mine years ago. I did a video of it working here for the bloke that bought it Geoff I think was his name. When he got it he was on complaining it had no receive or transmit. Apparently, he had a couple of blokes to have a go at fixing it. The ribbon for the channels was in it when I got it and worked fine so I just left it alone, as in this part of the world 40 channels only radios are as much use as a handbrake on a canoe. The ten turn trimmer you showed wasn't in it when it left here. All I did was the meter swap and all LED lighting along with getting a decal done for the rotary controls as some ape had seen fit to scratch up the original to mark knob positions. the Transformer and associated board were missing when I got it, but I never use onboard power supplies anyway. Nice to see it again and to see that its back working.

I have a Midland 78-999 that I use as a base radio, very good radio.

The antenna switch on these sets can and do mess up your SWR when switching, I stopped using the antenna switch after having much better results with an external switch. I have two of these sets here in the UK where they always had a bad reputation of being prone to bleed over, not a problem nowadays as AM CB users are far and few between.

Can you tell me why my albrecht ae485 has no audio on fm but perfect on ssb..audio on fm for 5 minutes then once warmed up sounds like it of frequency but still sounds OK on ssb pls

HI, Jason hard to define remotely, but something very annoying happening for sure. I would check all oscillators and see if there is any drift happening, a few other options come to mind to check but maybe start with the easy oscillator checks, then we go from there. The fact its aok for 5mins then drifts off, check the easy stuff first for sure. cheers Brenton VK3CM
