Not many people know that Kapil was the 1st man to take not only 200 but also 250 wickets in ODIs. At the time of his retirement, he was the leading wicket taker in both ODIs and Tests. Kapil is the only captain to take 9 wickets in an innings. Only man to claim 400 wickets and score 5000 runs, also only man to claim 400 wickets and 4000 runs in Tests. World record 184 innings without getting run out. He is the 1st man to hit 4 consecutive 6s in tests. (Now equalled by Afridi and De Villiers but not broken). He is still in the list of top 10 wicket takers in tests. Strike rate of 94 in tests, higher than Richards and Sehwag, 95 in ODI, higher than Richards. Still youngest to 100 wickets and 1000 runs, 200 wickets and 2000 runs, 300 wickets and 3000 runs. He is still the youngest man to take 300 Test wickets. (Was also youngest to take 100, 200 and 400 but these 3 records stand broken now). India Records: Fastest 50 by an Indian in tests in 30 balls. Fastest century by an Indian in Tests in 74 balls. (Later equalled by Azhar but not broken). 2nd fastest to reach 100 wickets in 25 tests (Bumrah is now fastest in 24 tests) Second fastest 50 by an Indian in ODI in 22 balls (Fastest by Agarkar in 21 balls) He is the 1st Indian to complete his maiden test century with a six. (Harbhajan is the only other Indian to do so) (Myth: Kapil neved bowled a no ball: This is wrong, he did bowl no balls.)

Add the number of catches dropped of Kapil's bowling along with lack of pace bowling support from other end. Remember pace bowlers hunt in pairs, particularly in Tests. Then compare Kapil with his contemporaries. Kapil ushered the era of pace and swing that you see in Team India of today.

A phenomenal achievement back in the 1980s - when batsmen used to play proper Cricket in ODIs as well with minimum rash or risky shots. and he reached this milestone ahead of Malcolm Marshall. What a legend. India's biggest cricketer.

@@HishamSarwar Marshall is officially the greatest fast bowler to have ever played the game, though he enjoyed only moderate success in ODIs. Any accomplishment coming ahead of him has to be fairly commendable. While Hadlee had great numbers, he didn't play that many ODIs. imran had only the 1987 World Cup when he peaked as the world's best ODI bowler. His era in ODIs was dominated by Joel Garner in the late 70s and early 80s and wasim akram from late 80s onwards.

In India batting is easiest task at flat, dead pitches, simonteniously pace bowling is such difficult that some wore jaket, pullover at 43 degree temperature, I think kapil has tremendous tenacity could do this miracle almost 700 wkts, I have doubt from lily to akram, Marshall to Hadley could do so? By statistics lily best or Hadley but situation claimed kapil is best.
