I am an avid fiber artist, and I use thrifted yarn ALL the time. Moth damaged yarn is part of the adventure. I take all new yarn and bake it on the lowest heat in the oven for 20 minutes. This dries out any living moth ickiness. Then, when you're working and you come across breakage, you just have to un-knit or un-crochet and then you can "spit join" past the break/fray and keep going.

Hi Lori I am a knitter/crocheter as far as the yarn all yarn are subject to moth damage but if the yarn is stored in a safe container or zip lock bag it should be fine, if she run into a piece that has been detached there are techniques she can use to attach the yarn to continue crocheting. She can search her on KZbin for the step by step tutorials on how to do it. If she starts a KZbin channel on her journey let me know!

On wool you need to look carefully at the bag don’t buy anything that’s has damaged packaging or has bugs in it or if the yarn is loose check the wool doesn’t snap when you pull it or smell smoky .

most knitters crocheters take skeins of yarn and roll them into a ball before starting to work with it just easier .so I would imagine if they came across some damage while rolling it then they would not use it or perhaps they cut out the damaged part and use teh rest

So I actually stopped my work out just to respond to your post about the yarn. My mom is a master knitter - I am fairly good myself. She and I have extremely high end yard I mean we’re talking about like you know $40+ a skein…. 1. It’s possible that the yarn has already been infested by moths because it has been in a thrift store or around other woolens and it’s old. So, here’s what you do (sounds crazy, but it’s what I do whenever I bring home any sweater from the thrift: put it in the freezer overnight. It will kill any potential moth eggs. 2. After the freezer business, you take it out and wash it in Eucelan. Literally everything I sell that has any wool in it gets washed in Eucelan and then rolled in a towel and blocked (shaped). As an aside, Icelandic wool sounds very foreign, and like it’s high-quality… It could be, but more likely than not. Icelandic wool is very, very itchy, so whatever she crochets will need something under it. Hope that’s helpful! P.S. Happy Belated Birthday! I turned 50 in May! Hurray🎉❤ P.P.S. Every skein of yarn…anything that is silk or wool is stored in Ziplock bags in our homes. Cedar moth balls are useless…please, trust me on this . Why silk? Because if they can’t find wool they’ll go after silk. I know…I had no idea either! 🤣

Hi! It can take some time to build some momentum. I think if you are selling items that are in high demand you can hit the ground running. Summer can be a slow time of year so try to be patient and try to list consistently and price competitively to get going. There is a lot of trial and error in this business! I picked up a lululemon jacket I thought it was teh divine jacket look s just like it . Of course savers priced it high I Think 19.99 .. picked it did not fit me so thought I would resell it ,,, was told by a FB buyer it was a fake and you could tell because teh chin guard was on the wrong side and another tiny give away I forget now. Looked at lululemons site and indeed teh chin guard was on teh wrong side ... I think thrift stores who over price fakes should get in trouble just as much as resellers for selling fakes . Thrift stores do not know a fake from a non fake. Was in a thrift the other day and they were trying to up price a fake coach bag. Thrifts should concentrate on selling volume ... the items they got for free instead of trying to up price every thing or wasting time on researching what they think might be a high end item .. They get lots of tax breaks and grant money they do not need to be over greedy
