i'm not sure about the whole story regarding this video, but ive heard that this was a video that played on a special channel for Dish Network users who were not paying for their programming.

Imagine being a kid in the late 2000’s.. it’s late at night and your parents just got cable TV for the first time and you just want to watch a show- and this pops up.

There were some earlier versions with a skull and crossbones logo on them that would have been even creepier and more unsettling lol

I like how the list of channels that were gone is _less_ than the ones listed in the pre-2008 video, yet the script is the exact same with them saying that they will continue to make security so much better.

I remember growing up with Dish network as a kid in the 90s. I had no idea this was such a huge problem back then that Dish had to create a channel just for satellite pirates 😂. I wonder if the other satellite company (Direct TV) thought of doing the same at some point.

This was probably recorded in the early 2000's before there were a billion streaming services. Cable and Satellite were the only 2 choices besides free stuff over an antenna
@Mi_Fa_Volare Жыл бұрын
@inter_1097 satellite was never a subscribtion here in Europe. You wanted luxury channels without ads or soccer, you subscribe to the channels, not the satellite service. The rest was free, including the popular and good chanels. I bought a card for the HD versions of the 40 dominant channels. I paid to the HD carrier HD+, not the satellite company. This way TV can prevail, unlike American TV, where you need a subscription for Satellite alone, which circumstance makes cable TV able to compete with satellite in the US.

Notice they avoid saying it's illegal and that could be criminal penalties because that wouldn't be true. Anything broadcast over the air you can decode and it's not illegal. It's not like stealing physical cable which is actually a crime.

This is actually really well-done! How did you get the AI voice to lip-sync with the actor so well? I assume the footage itself was taken from a promotional commercial of some sort. I also like your realistic and compassionate approach to anti-piracy - companies don't convert pirates to paying customers by scaring them, after all!
@rubenthepotato6 ай бұрын
it's not an AI voice, this video was made in the late 2000s and that's the spokesman's own voice. Dish did have a kinder approach to piracy here though

@@rubenthepotatoYeah this one is more chill compared to earlier pirate tv shorts. A previous one used scare tactics saying you are a committing a crime pay us or we will report you to the police basically.

Absolutely right. Satellite providers should charge the TV stations, not the viewers. This is the way here in Europe. You do not subscribe to satellite. Just point the dish and you're done.

@@Mi_Fa_Volarethe network providers charge loads of money to the cable and satellite operators such as dish which is why it costs money. In fact, Dish Network dropped a bunch of local channels a while back due to a dispute where a company that owns a lot of the local channels wanted to charge them 13 billion per year
