The Pushkin Museum has put together a rare collection of 130 religious icons dating from the 14th to 16th centuries, known as a golden age of religious art in Russia. It's only the third time an exhibition of this type has been brought together.

I can understand regular people (layman) displaying their prejudices believing that only the paint used on the skin darkened and needed to be lightened, but art experts should be ashamed of themselves. They know better, but continue the lie. All the iconography from all the Christian orthodox churches throughout the centuries and the paint used on the skin is dark in all of these churches. That is not a coincidence. What makes it even more sad are the resteratations that have been going on for the last hundred years. They are changing the skin color making everyone white. That’s not true. Just look at the iconography in pre-Christ synagogues. They’re all fair skinned. Most orthodox icons are not black unless you count the Ethiopian orthodox. If the blackness of the individuals in these icons is described as so because of the passage of time, well then what is the scientific explanation for this blackening? Obviously, the original parchment would be of a lighter hue. The artists would have understood this fact and would have used darker textured parchment to highlight the SO-CALLED white characters of Christian racial background, if these were really 'white'.
