If someone listened to old recordings, Ustad Ahmadjan Thirakwa used to play this very often. Here Ustadji made so many wonderful variations bringing in new new colours, amazing!

@@TablaUK Sorry, I just saw your question. I am not sure if this piece has a particular name...it could be a chalan...I may be wrong though...But yes I heard this one played by Thirakwa Saheb. You might look for an album of Thirkwa Saheb with Pandit Ravi Shankar, I have that one, its an LP record. There he played solo. You will find it there. I cannot recall if the available solo recordings of Thirakwa Saheb have this one.

mpsmd this is a Farukabad kayada.Ustad Zaqir Hussain has improvised it in different manner. One can listen it being played by Late Ustad Nizamuddin Khan as well as byLate Ustad Thirakava

@@raghunathkulkarni8839 Raghunath ji, thank you very much for getting back on this. Your references are very enriching. But I have one question. Are you sure this is a kayeda? I do not think so. If it is a kayeda, then where are the bhari-khali parts. Secondly, kayedas have typical variations. That is neither seen in Zakir ji's playing nor I have heard that in Thirakwa shaeb's recording. They both do some variations of the same paragraph. It more sounds like a gat (or chalan?) to me.

Only Ustadji can play such intricate and sophisticated variations. I don't think I've seen anybody come close to Ustadji's laykaari, and this is what sets Ustadji apart from the rest of the tabla artists. Nevertheless, this was ABSOLUTELY mind - blowing, and I could feel that music emanating from him all the time. Just awesome.
