The civil war always leaves me with an odd almost spooky feeling. Your videos on Lieutenant Samuel M. Mckamey have haunted me. I can picture a young lieutenant riding home to the barn. Climbing down off his horse taking the coat off and hanging it in the barn. Taking care of the horse and walking to the house while trying to put the war behind him. I get frustrated when blow hards today try and gloss over the fact that they have the advantage of 160 years between then and now. No one today has any idea of the thought process of the time.

I was rewatching the McKamey videos. Can you tell what style the house is. Two story, single story etc. I'm trying to fill in my vision of his return home. Plain or ornate.

I really appreciate the video. It's very humbling to see the North and the South coming together, shaking hands, and living it up one last time. The Commemorative coins sold during that reunion are pretty sweet looking. I can't afford one yet. Another great video. Thanks Bird dog.

My grandfather served in the 7th MS Reg Co A. He wasn’t at Vicksburg but he did survive the entire war, whereas his two best friends that joined with him did not. He is buried next to the old family farm, way back in the woods where no yankee will ever find his headstone.

Note the date of surrender: July 4, 1863. Have heard that the folks of Vicksburg refused to celebrate the 4th for many years afterwards.

Great upload, I wonder, have you ever heard of what they called the soldiers disease? How many , many vets on both sides developed heart disease and alcoholism? Interesting to read how war can keep causing problems even years afterwards, i am a vet and I more than understand, but what I would think of as hell now probably wouldn’t even compare to the he’ll of then

Kind Sir, where'd your "cannonball" short run off to? Do not tease! Tally Ho! Long live Southern and C.S.A. history. Some mark 1865 as the year our Republic died. I now agree.

I had two great great grandfathers who fought for the south.Neither ever surrendered and to their dying never swore allegiance to the yankee government.
