Rare in-depth interview with Gloria Estefan about her youth, private life and career from 1987. Taken from the promo LP "World Premiere Weekend" which was sent to radio stations to promote the release of "Let It Loose" in May 1987.

She sounds like a well-grounded and wonderful person. It comes out in how she is on stage too - very personable and relatable. I recently saw her touring musical life-story, "On Your Feet." It was so surprising to find out that she was really Shy and really felt uncomfortable initially when asked to be the vocalist "face" of the Miami Sound Machine. It was really to see the backstory of how she developed into the superstar she became. But it was her family background that kept her pretty well-grounded all these years and decades (unlike how some celebrities really let fame and fortune get to their heads and they loose all normal moorings). After seeing "On Your Feet," she seems even more personable now. She deserved all the fame and success she had. What a wonderful, classy lady!

@@givannybronx True, but more and more is being blocked by Sony. Even videos that have been on KZbin for years. It's strange because they make money from what I upload. This video probably won't get blocked because it's not recognised by Sony. But recently they blocked the audio for the Homecoming Concert and some rare remixes. It's a bit annoying honestly.

This makes me wonder what prompted her to leave Miami Sound Machine the following year, first no longer billing as Miami Sound Machine, then abandoning it altogether.

Technically she never left MSM. It was more a marketing decision from the record label I guess. MSM changed after Primitive Love was released in 1985 and its last remaining member, Enrique "Kiki" Garcia, unfortunately left at the end of the Let it Loose tour in 1988. Gloria then did some side projects (eg with Placido Domingo) which changed the focus more on her alone. For Cuts Both Ways she still worked with the same band members as well in the studio as during the following world tours. Basically the name MSM was dropped but they still formed a band together.
