@Lady Jupiter I saw one the other day with her speaking like someone from Arizona. Awful. Why not get an American actress, or use Jane as an English woman. What is the point of using an English actress and having her play an American woman?

@Solitaire Can't remember, it was a while ago, but it sounds familiar. I watched a film with Liam Neeson trying to be American, and I thought they should have used his Irishness, and if the film really called for a US man, then USE ONE!

This shows the lack of morality, blindness, and level of acceptance people have today focusing and selling our souls on things of NO VALUE (career, political power, money, etc.), when compared and weighed by the value of our souls and consciousness. For career, political power, money, etc. are the same as the hills in the desert up one day and gone the next as easily as it was built. But the value of our souls and consciousness is forever.

There are lots of good comments here already but there is one observation that I can add. I have noticed that Bruce Greenwood can play a sort of dirty dog character in a movie but he doesn't come across as completely despicable. The Jake character knows exactly who and what he is and he makes no apologies for it. He says that he isnt married because he is looking for someone who knows what he is and is good with that. At the end of the movie, he also makes a statement about things being the way they are and him just doing what he needed to do. Despite the fact that he was using the Allison Character, he still felt that they had some sort of moment. It makes me think of the Roderick Usher character that Greenwood played more recently who was also not of the best character but admitted that he was who he was and that when it came to the truth, he was a kidder. It takes something special to portray the dark side of our society in terms of the greed, ambition and the willingness to use others for their own ends without completely demonizing the character. The reality is that many in society say and do bad things to get ahead without necessarily being complete sociopaths. In fact, there are elements in Western culture which promote doing so. Perhaps many, if not most, people have done something they knew was wrong at some point in their lives to get ahead and these characters show us that. The William Devane character was the same in some ways but less self-aware. I think that this movie provides an opportunity to reflect on the dark side of our culture.

Can anyone explain the ridiculous plot to me? What are they saying the Jean Douglas was the senator's fiancée and she fabricated the sexual harassment thing to make the senator win at the end? Then what's the story with Ms. Gonzales? Why did she need to stall Jane Seymour? She could have given her the OK in the beginning and then tell the public about the engagement then? Why did she stall? And why when she taped the sexual harassment she looked so shocked and frightened? She played a game after all? This just doesn't make any sense.
@Famijoly Жыл бұрын
Whether or not Jean Douglas actually was the senator's fiancee is immaterial. The ending of the movie was head-scratching to me, too, until I remembered a scene from early on. I went back and checked, and, sure enough, it was BEFORE Jean Douglas audio-taped the encounter with the Senator in his office. First there is the campaign manager clandestinely paying off the young lady who said the senator attempted to rape her in an elevator. When the campaign manager returns to the limousine, he asks if he can speak frankly with the senator and talks about the senator's "woman problem." He concludes with, and the senator nods in agreement, "We need a strategy." That contextualizes the other bookend, namely the exchange in the TV studio where Allison confronts Jean with "I thought you were my friend" and Jean answers, "Yes, that's why I came to you." Jean came to Allison as part of the campaign strategy. Jean initiated the dinner with Ally (probably reimbursed by the campaign). She played Ally because "If that bastard is going to the White House, I'm going with him."
@Gail-l2o5 ай бұрын
@@Famijoly I too was not sure of the twist so ur saying the tape Jean made was not real (or was it) and that the whole thing with Jean confronting Alison about sexual harrassment was a ploy? Then why have Ally running around trying to find others who were sexually harrassed by him? Plus Jean was demoted when she didn't accept Hunter's advances. Anyway I'm still not sure if I get it. lol

Alison should've kept things professional instead of going to bed with Jake who just screws women he works with. She would've been more Focused & Discreet, not _'Used for a big story'_ and things would've gone down much differently. The letter wouldn't have been stolen with that poor lady tracked down, recorded and forced to almost speak. *Her friend was the one who couldn't be trusted. All their conversations* _(not the ex-military woman's)_ *should've been recorded to be **_released on the air after the double-cross where they both would've been_** interrogated by Her & Jake right on the Air* with everything they had. The Story would've *made the News and that girl he tried to Rape in the Elevator would've definitely come forward* as a follow up on Camera. It wouldn't have mattered that her friend backed down and tried to cover for him. *Hope Alison learned from this experience to always cover herself* _(record them)_ in case someone pulls a stunt like that again. *Well her Friend who sold her Soul for the Whitehouse is the big loser in all this.* She may be 1st lady but in a depressing, loveless marriage with a powerful Husband who will Rape women and get away with it. Thanks to her.
