I went through a terrible divorce almost two years ago and lost the Love of My life and then My Mama died back In February. I got saved when I was 12 but I never fully understood what happened. It wasn't until all the pain and sorrow that I went through that I was brought full circle to a place where I understood that I have been free since I was 12. I didn't know It but still It Is true. I am free In Jesus...He has forgiven Me for that bad marriage and My Identity lies In Him.

I'm a 50 year old truck driver who has seen and done lots of things that most people only read about. I was ill mannered, careless, without direction, and hardened to humanity as a whole. I was rapidly spiraling downward with no chance of slowing down before I hit bottom. Only then, did I realize that it had to stop, but I wasn't going to do it by myself. That's when, with the help of friends and strangers, I turned to Jesus for help, and I too was changed. That was 19 years ago. I now have a great wife, of almost 18 years, and a beautiful 16 year old daughter. The "I love you daddy" part in the video just broke me down and made me cry like I never had before. Thank you Rascal Flatts, thank you friends, and mostly, Thank you Jesus, for I am changed !!!

I sat on a street corner crying like a baby back in 1987 not knowing what to do.. I finally asked God Almighty for deliverance. I asked that he lift the addiction. I will always love this song, I drank until I was wasted off of my butt for 2 years and drove most of those nights. I knew I needed help and prayed about it many nights. One night I drove drunk out to the middle of nowhere and screamed at God to come save me, I assumed that he would show up and present himself (That never happens, but I was drunk) He heard my cry, about a week later I was pulled over, probably the drunkest I have ever been. I was arrested and sat in a jail cell wondering how my life could have gotten to this road. I quietly prayed hard that night, I felt a feeling so strong that all I could think of was "I left God, I left the church" It was almost an internal voice speaking to me it was so strong. After getting out of jail after some time sober, I began to pray and get help. God has done nothing but good things for me ever since. Of course there are people who will say it was just bad luck, followed by good luck. But I have no doubt that it was God, my life was a living hell and it continues to get better every day and I continue to get blessed every day. I pray that anyone who needs help gets it.

I was fourteen when I was baptized. In fact, it was three years ago today when I was baptized in the Columbia River. That day when I was baptized, this was the song that was in my head. I feel like I need to do this. On Christmas Eve I'm going to celebrate 15 years of sobriety. Often a real alcoholic will do more damage to the people that love them than to themselves do to their selfishness, self-centeredness, dishonesty, greed...I am a miracle...I have all of those defects of character listed above...The only way that I can combat those defects is to continuously try to strengthen my relationship with God by seeking him, and by working the 12 steps of Alcoholics Anonymous...family members are sick too, often more sick that they actually realize...I would suggest that you find a meeting of Al-anon Family Groups and attend a meeting to ask for help...You will need to work the 12 steps and your life will improve...GUARANTEED!!! I will say prayers for you and your family...

I love how so many of Rascal Flatts' music videos take the song and give it a whole new meaning. They really make you re-evaluate the lyrics on a deeper level. In this case, I always imagined the song talking about baptism, but this failed suicide idea is intense. It's like he literally died in the river and God pulled him back out. :) Thank you Rascal Flatts for being awesome!

The men of Rascal Flats are Christian men. This video is indeed about baptism and changed life. I have never been a Rascal Flats fan, country these days doesn't sound like country any more, but this song has a way of turning that around. Mostly out of respect.
