I'm a Toronto boy, born and raised, live in Etobicoke to this day. But when I was 20 I moved to Sweden and I lived in a town or a small city called Gävle. I stayed there for 5 years. I played some hockey there, studied at the university there and worked as a substitute English teacher. Anyway I thought I would share.

Too bad we couldn't get better long term RHD then keeping Sandin would have been a viable option.

As a neutral fan its a shame it didnt work out in Toronto as they can use a young skilled dman, makes sense though some players need a change of scenery or wake up call to take that next step forward.

So basically Leafs traded him for Gustafsson + 1st, took Easton Cowan, replaced Gustafsson with Klingberg. Just why?

He’s too small. Gets rag dolled too easy especially playoffs.
@RedroomStudios

@@TONY_87. ya, I agree he is small for a defenseman but every team needs a couple good Dmen that can score and play on the power play. my main complaint though is we traded him for Gustafsson who barely played for us and is now on the Rangers. so we gave away a guy who was a decent talent for basically nothing.

@@RedroomStudiosI always thought the trade was to recoup a first since Dubas traded out 2 of them this year in which we used to draft Easton Cowan

Sandin was a erratic finesse player that the TMLHC didn't need on the back line. McCabe was a much better fit. Then again, not many finesse players are difference-makers on the back line. Takes a special talent such as Karlsson to pull it off, and Sandin isn't in his zip code. Not even close.

Can’t believe dubas traded out sandin engvall to bring in McCabe Lafferty. Brutal trade
@deweyw3737
@deweyw3737 9 ай бұрын
It was actually Gustafson, Sandin was traded for, which absolutely was a horrible, horrible trade. Bringing in McCabe was definitely a good thing and same with Lafferty as Engvall is probably better suited for a second line role. He doesn’t play the hard nose game Lafferty plays and they have enough guys that play a similar game to Engvall but are 10 times better. The only really bad move was the Sandin one, but I think that was a matter of Dubas wanting to do what’s best for the person and not so much for the team. I imagine Dubas had told Sandin if he wasn’t going to play that he would move him and with Scheen, McCabe and Gustafson being brought in Sandin likely wouldn’t have played again or been played very seldomly til the end of season as they would have wanted the time to evaluate the new guys

@@deweyw3737 Jake McCabe is a 3rd pairing defender at best and Lafferty is a 4th line forward. Sandin is already a young offensive 3rd pairing defender and engvall is a 3rd liner. Dubas paid massive assets to downgrade the team
@deweyw3737
@deweyw3737 9 ай бұрын
@@pahul79 well clearly you missed the first part of my comment, not sure you even bothered to read it and just assumed I disagreed with you. Sandin wasn’t traded for McCabe, he was traded for Gustafson. So comparing the two like one was chosen over the other isn’t even close to the way it was. Sandin for Gustafson was down right mentally challenged. I never said McCabe wasn’t a third liner but he was the type of player you needed going into the playoffs, not afraid to play the tough game like a Justin holl or any of the forwards. Same as Lafferty. Engvall was too offensive minded for a third liner, he doesn’t hit, doesn’t defend or block shots, he skates and scores, and again I say there was at least 4 guys better at doing those things then he was. You will never win a championship if it’s all offence no defence, it’s something this team has taken a long time to learn. Matthews and Marner are great two way players but they are “soft” or easy to play against. They need guys that were harder to play against and guess what they did this off-season? Brought those types of players in.
@pahul79
@pahul79 9 ай бұрын
@@deweyw3737 you don’t understand, he was traded out because they traded for Jake McCabe. Engvall created good offense for them on the 3rd line, which they lack. Their best forwsrds after the core 4 were jarnkrok, kerfoot and bunting. 2 of them are 3rd line plugs
@deweyw3737
@deweyw3737 9 ай бұрын
@@pahul79 that’s not true at all, look at the cap dollars that went in and out, they could have held on to Sandin. They just wouldn’t have been able to get Gustafson.

Geez, how desperate are 32 Thoughts to have a sit-down with a second-pair defenseman who hasn't achieved a whole heckuva lot. Can't wait for the next show -- an in-depth interview with Pierre-Édouard Bellemare . . .
