@@ignaciovirel5326 Hi Ignacio, thanks so much for the kind words! I actually don't know about the profit side of the books, I haven't gotten that deep into it! I like to get the physical books to sell at local galleries and on Etsy, and I like having it on Amazon in case people want to purchase that way. But I haven't tried to really market them a lot on Amazon. I have seen a lot of youtube videos on the topic from Paul Marles, so maybe try him? Good luck!!

Thanks I'm so glad! If it's a children's picture book, then it's better to use the Kindle Kids Book Creator because it is a fixed layout, as opposed to reflowable content.

@@HeatherCashArt Hi Heather. I followed your ebook as I have already uploaded the first. Again very flawlessly explained even a child can really follow. I did not have pop ups before. I guess for window previewer you cant see it with the tablet showing but still all good since I can see it is all good. By the way the paperback I made previously I had it separately published is that ok?

@@etorn5762 thank you, I'm so glad you liked the tutorial! When you preview your book, the popups don't show up on their own, you have to click the text to see it, if I remember correctly. Also - when you go to upload your ebook, I think it's better to do it under the same book, because then on Amazon when someone is viewing your book, they'll be able to all the formats it's available in. So in your KDP Bookshelf, find your paperback book, and next to it you'll see a button that says "Create Kindle Ebook" and you'll want to click on that. Hope that helps!!

Great question! Kindle Create is for reflowable content (where there's a lot of text and it will flow from page to page), like a novel / chapter book. For a picture book, since you want specific images & text on specific pages, it's not reflowable and you'll need to use Kindle Kids Book Creator. 💕

Your 300 DPI file should be good. I'm not sure why the preview would look horrible. Did you try following through and then testing it? Maybe it's just the preview?

Oh, I think that has happened to me too. You can just open up the previewer on its own, and then open the mobi file from there!

I’m doing a easy reader children’s book. On my paperback version, there is text on one side and a picture on the other. What would be the best choice? To me, it seems it is best to still have the picture and text together in landscape view…then that way, the picture and text go together. What do most writers and illustrators do for this style of book? Can whoever buys your kindle book change your book from portrait to landscape? Thank you! I love your tutorials!

Hi! I would definitely do landscape view with the two pages side by side, so you have the text on one side and picture on the other. The customer won't be able to change it, because essentially what's happening is that Amazon is saving the two pages next to each other as one whole page, so that's how it will get served up to the customer. Hi! No, unless you really want to - you could always save it out as a page and add it to the end of the ebook if you wanted to. But personally I've never read an ebook that included the back cover.

Hi! The purpose of the pop-ups is that whoever is reading your ebook can change the size of the text in the pop-up. If you don't add pop-ups, and your text size is too small, then they won't be able to read your book!

You're welcome! I don't think you can send it during the 90-day distribution period. I would either send it before the 90-day period, or send it in a different format like PDF. From KDP's help page: During the 90-day enrollment period, the Kindle eBook can only be distributed through KDP. However, you can continue to distribute print, video, audio, or other formats of your title elsewhere. See the KDP Terms and Conditions for more information.

Hi! You won't be able to have anything on the inside of the cover. For the first page, since it is a single page (on right side of spine) you can either make it a title page, or put copyright info, or leave it blank (I left mine blank). Hope that helps!

Hi, I didn't upload the back cover for the ebook. Ebooks don't typically have back covers, as far as I know.

Hi! You need to crop the cover because if you originally made the cover for print, it will include the front and back. But an ebook doesn't have a back. So you crop it so that it only includes the front cover.

@@LargePrintBooksforChildren In my book in the video, I do already have text in the pages that is in the Quicksand font. The only reason I changed font in the creator program is because I added text boxes in the program, so that someone reading the book on a small screen has the option to look at the text big. So, I did have the font as Quicksand before importing, it was the text I added after importing that I changed the font of. So in regards to your question, for the text boxes you couldn't do the font before importing because they don't exist until after importing, since you create them after importing. Does that make sense? Am I understanding your question?

No I haven't come across that issue. So you upload your PDF to Kindle kids Creator, and Kindle kids Creator gives you the error? OR is KDP giving you the error when you upload the mobi file to KDP? If it's Kindle kids book creator - I believe you can upload your pages separately to Kindle kids Creator, you could try that instead.

Hi Heather, Thank you for the video. Can you please tell the size for the ebook should it be 8.5 * 8.5 , because I was publishing a book in other languages and is only available for ebooks. You're never going to get the ebook to fit perfectly since not all devices are the same proportions. For the cover, you're only going to upload the front cover. It won't have a back cover.

Hi! I'm back home! So the restriction is for reflowable books, like chapter books, where users can resize the text and it would make the text take up a different amount of pages based on the size of the text, if that makes sense. For children's books, they are fixed-format, i.e. the text will always be in the same place on the page, therefore the children's books are accepted as mobi files. Here is the exact wording: "We support fixed format books in MOBI that meet the specifications outlined in the Kindle Publishing Guidelines. For reflowable eBooks, upload a EPUB, DOCX, or KPF file instead." Hope that helps!

I think that I did something wrong. When I got to Kindle eBook Preview it says that you have uploaded a fixed layout book. Spelling and image checks are not available for fixed layout formats. I am trying to do a kindle version of a children’s paperback book that I have already published. I have been using procreate for all my illustrations. Is there an easy way to split my cover in half using procreate? I don’t have photoshop. I tried importing a picture of my paperback cover onto a canvas half it’s size…but somehow, it didn’t line up right…and I’ll have to redo a lot of the cover if there isn’t another way around it. I added trim to the size, but where it isn’t being trimmed because it isn’t a physical copy…do I leave the trim out of the equation and just do the size of the book 8 x 10? Thanks!

Hi! I would make a copy of the cover file in procreate (so you don't lose the original) and then just crop it to get rid of the left half!

Do you know what color profile Kindle Kids Book Creator works with? I imported my illustrations into Creator, but they look really oversaturated compared to the original illustrations in photoshop/indesign.

Hi! The color mode should be RGB! It's possible you have your images in CMYK if you made them for print so you'll just need to convert them. If you need a quick tutorial for that, email me at [e-mail] and I'll record a quick video for you 🙂

For what I can see your book was less than 24 pages but still have a paperback. How were you able to print it without the required 24 pages? I am having dilemma with my book being only 14 pages.

Hi! I have less than 24 pages of story, but I did include a couple blank pages in the beginning and end. You could add some blank pages, add a title page, copyright page, dedication, author page... Etc.

How do you make the wave in your text? Did you use the curve option in canva?

Hi! That one I actually did in Photoshop. I made the wave line using the pen tool and then put text on the path. If I was doing a wave in Canva, I would probably break the sentence up into two pieces. The first piece I would curve the text downward, and the second piece I would curve it upward, so that when you put them together it makes a wave. Hope that helps!

You don't need to worry about bleed for ebooks. But if you do include it (because for example you used the same PDF for your ebook that you used for your print book) then that's ok, either way with or without bleed works.

They do take mobi files, just not for reflowable content books (like chapter books). They do take mobi for children's books.

As far as I know, you need a computer. I'm not able to find anything on the KDP website that mentions the kids book creator for iPad.

It looks like they don't but they do. They don't accept it for reflowable content, but they do accept it for fixed layout which is what a children's book picture book is. So even though you see that message, upload it anyways. Just trust me 😉
