Thank you. I work at a paint and sip and I have been using all these tips in my class and have been told it's overkill and unnecessary. Yet when I do it anyway, students love their paintings more and feel more fulfilled so I do not think it's overkill to educate. Brush care is the hardest to explain bc most at least around here do not particularly care and they just don't listen so I go around wiping brushes all the time and do it while I'm distracting them as we discuss that individual's painting and then I'll mention it again. Thank you for reminding me I am sane for wanting to be thorough in this way. It's meant to be fun of course but a little knowledge goes a long way. Please make more of these. I have some for paint and sip quick tips since we are not encouraged at our studio to really teach just do and let them enjoy themselves but there's pleasure in planning at least to me! Thank you again and I wish you many years of growth and continued success. 😊❤🎨🎨🎨

Thanks for watching my video and for your comment! I also walk around and take the brushes out of the water or clean them if they are just sitting there with paint on them! I think a lot of times it's just hard for people to get into the habit. I know when I started painting I ruined so many brushes 😋 Also, re: what you said about them just wanting to have fun - I definitely find a mix in my classes, where some will want to learn but some just want to have fun. So if I say "do you want help blending" and they just don't say anything, then I just let them do it their way. I do think it's important to let them get out of the class whatever they want to get out of it - whether that's a fun time, or experimentation, being creative, or learning new things. But I definitely offer to help in case they want to learn. If it's just a "fun time" for everyone, some may leave unhappy because they didn't learn something or they don't like their painting. Anyways, I'm just rambling now 😂 Thank you for your comment!

Some really excellent advice here, especially the part about brush care!! I see so many people (not the painters, but the actual painting hosts) leaving their brushes soaking, point down, in water. Not only does it curl the bristles, wooden handles will absorb water over time, which ruins them.

thank you. I have recently gotten back in to art, hadn't painted in 15 years and realized I have the talent. I live in a small town in Louisiana and kids and people of all sorts don't have much to do and can't afford to go to town for things. I would like to do a bi-weekly class/hangout where someone can just come and make their own art. Putting this together is purely to make the community come together a little closer and maybe show someone that they have a talent they didn't know. I hope I can pull this off it would be a joy to make even one person happy at what they did. Great video!

Great video. I want to have a paint party. Do you recommend any affordable easels?
@HeatherCashArt
@HeatherCashArt 4 жыл бұрын
If it's just a one-time paint party, getting easels may be kind of an expensive route to go. What size canvases are you planning on using? For my classes where we use 8x10 and 11x14s, we don't use easels. But, if you definitely want easels, the less expensive ones are the wooden ones. I did a quick Amazon search, and here's a 12-pack for $38: www.amazon.com/dp/B073WVH2M3 However, it won't fit a 16x20 canvas. But it would fit 11x14. So, again it depends on what size canvas you'll be using. I hope that helps!! Heather

@@HeatherCashArt on thanks that helps alot. Yes I going to use 11x14. If the party turns out good then I'll do more n the future. You said you don't use easels with 8x10 or 11x14. How does that work for you guys? Just have it sit flat on the tables?

One more tip: when practicing your pre-party painting, use the exact same materials you plan to use in class. You will discover if you need to make changes before you have an audience.
@HeatherCashArt
@HeatherCashArt 9 ай бұрын
That's true, especially with paint! Early on I would use a blue for the sky and then have a different blue in the class, and people would ask "how do I make the sky look like the original painting?" 😬 Then I felt bad because they weren't getting exactly what was advertised! So after that happened a couple times I started to use only the exact same paints!

I'm planning to host a paint n sip at at a cultural festival and I'm kinda nervous bc I know its not going to work as a "class". It's going to lean towards me showing kids and teens how to paint very easy paintings (ex: a silhouette of a palm tree in a sunset) things that are not very detailed. I would be able to do them in 5 min, but I'm sure kids would take up an hour with it, but there will be a lot of people coming and going and it won't be posible for me to keep everyone on the same page. Bc some people will start before others, some will have picked a painting thats different than the person next to them, etc. Do you have any experience with something like this or have any tips? Your tips in the video were very helpful and I will defiantly be watching this video again! Thank you.
@HeatherCashArt
@HeatherCashArt 5 жыл бұрын
Hmm, how about having a bunch of canvases with different pre-painted black outlines, and they can pick one and paint it in (like a coloring page)? That way, if they want to just do it with no instruction they can, or if they want you to show them techniques they can get more instruction. I definitely think something that gives the option for them to do it all themselves with no instruction would be good, in case you get super swamped and busy, then you can just go around answering questions but don't need to teach step by step. Along those same lines, you could also have little "cheat sheets" with little tips like what each brush is for, simple how to blend instruction, etc?
@noraali3452
@noraali3452 5 жыл бұрын
@@HeatherCashArt Thank you, I definitely will do that! I feel like that gives me more leeway in allowing people who feel discouraged with their painting skills to be more confidence in taking on a painting.

How much do u charge to be a Paint and Sip art instructor?
@HeatherCashArt
@HeatherCashArt 3 жыл бұрын
There are two different places that I teach. One of them, I get paid per person. The cost is $25/painter and I get $10 per painter (the rest goes to the company who pays for supplies etc). The other one, I get paid a flat $85 per class that I do. I like the first one better because I end up making more as long as I get 9 or more painters. I hope that helps!
@sunnyj171
@sunnyj171 3 жыл бұрын
@@HeatherCashArt oh wow nice" someone wanted me to be an art instructor at a Paint and Sip I charged them $10 per person there will be 30 people so that comes out to about $300. Do u think that's overpriced?
@HeatherCashArt
@HeatherCashArt 3 жыл бұрын
@@sunnyj171 Hi! I don't think that's overpriced, I actually think the one where I taught for $85 was waaay underpriced (I don't really teach for them anymore especially since the pandemic). You do a lot more work with 30 people, going from person to person to help them, trying to talk over them sometimes, lol 🙃 after a 30 person class I'm pretty tired. So I think $10/person is a good price!! Plus the place is probably charging at least $30/person so they are making BANK. You deserve $10 per person!
@sunnyj171
@sunnyj171 3 жыл бұрын
@@HeatherCashArt thank you so much I appreciate it so I noticed the young lady did not respond back after I told her the price. I know we are in the middle of a pandemic so I took the price down to $200 that's the lowest I'll go. If you are an art instructor should you just simply instruct them and over see what they're doing or do you actually paint with them as well so they can see what your painting??
@HeatherCashArt
@HeatherCashArt 3 жыл бұрын
@@sunnyj171 definitely paint along with them 100%! I wouldn't do it any other way, because it's just too hard to explain things with just words. You have to show them. Also it shows them that you know what you're doing and you're not just BS-ing, ha ha. But most importantly they can see how you do it and imitate you!
