I’m absolutely terrified of rats and think this scene is disgusting of course, LOL! But I, also, think it’s hilarious at the same time. Especially since you know it’s only acting and the rat only ended up having bad gas at the end. It was obviously just a stuffed animal or fake rat Eddie Murphy was pretending to revive in this scene.

pet rats are clean and tame animals who bite less than cats and dogs do. they are also listed as not a threat to humans when it comes to disease. the pet rat variety most people own and is shown in this movie is the brown rat “rattus norvegicus” and they were not responsible for carrying the Black Plague flea. i don’t know why you feel that way about rats. i haven’t met a single person who was hurt or killed by a rat. the incidence in dog related maulings is off the charts compared to rat related injuries. I say this owning dogs, cats and rats and loving all of them. there’s no reason to dislike rats other than prejudice. big dogs are a much bigger threat to you than a rat will ever be, and if any of my pets is going to kill me (they won’t) it will not be my rats.

It's not a fake rat nor a stuffed rat, this movie made the talking animals out of CGI, and Doctor didn't pretend. So now you've just GOT to be nice and know your movies more better.
