This is the 2nd great nights rat shooting we've had in recent weeks.
My choice of gun so far has to be the Ruger 10/22 Auto. You'll see why...... just 35 on this visit, but its clear we'll be back soon.
As good as my AirArms S510 is, the longer shots and speed are simply surpassed by the knock down power of the .22LR Bullet.
One little thing people may be able to help my with is upgrading some of my recording equipment. I'm looking to get a semi pro camcorder. but at a strong £1500 they don't come cheap. If you could spare even £1/$1 it would help massively. You can do that here:-
www.gofundme.c...
Don't forget to subscribe, less than two months to go for the T-shirt give away from this video here...... • 5 foxes shot with .223...

Many years ago I hunted rabbits with a 10 - 22 in Scotland. It was a standard sporter rifle fitted with as suppressor and a simple sharkeye torch mounted on top of the scope and bagged lots of bunnies using this system. Great to see how modern technology has been developed to record these moments,

This reminds me a lot of hunting prairie dogs growing up. They were a huge nuisance for farmers. They'd give us boxes if 22 shells to kill as many as we could. Half a dozen or more of us would head out to one of the "towns". We had plans drawn up that would rival Overlord un terms of complexity. It was nothing for us to kill 100+ in a couple hours. Great way to hone your marksmanship. No scopes. Mostly. 22 single shot bolt actions. Fun times.

because they can‘t see the reason. If they saw them eat something unknown or for example an arrow sticking out of the bodies they‘d learn that there is a danger. but there is no reason why the other rats die so they don‘t get suspicious. Rats flee from predators, not from death.

In the USA, some states are allowing suppressors for shooting serious pests like coyotes with calibers like 22-250 and .223. It's a shame that we can buy so many weapons here in the USA, but suppressors are very difficult to get approved by the BATF.

@@TheClickClick I don't think you understand how a suppressor works. They aren't the quiet little ping noise like in the movies. My neighbors would all hear it if I shot a 9mm suppressed in my house. Still rather loud.

Even got the use of a quad bike. Never used a quad before and I'm on here looking to see if there are any vids of home made shooting rests for a quad. What you shooting fox with?. You can NOT go wrong with a Ruger 10/22 .22 Long Rifle. By far one of my favorite rifles! I use that gun almost everyday. We have several barns on our 7K acre ranch in Texas. The Ruger 10/22 & a Ruger .22 pistol are my favorite tools to use on the ranch. Plus the bullets are super cheap! Lots of fun reducing turtles in the dirt water tanks as well. Retired life rocks!!! When you own a ton of guns & you have a great place to shoot them whenever I feel like it!! Life is good Foxer!

Back in the early '90's I was stationed at RAF Upper Heyford and I would go out at night with a friend with an air rifle and shoot rabbits. His wife was French and had a wonderful recipe on how to cook rabbits. I have never seen so many rabbits before in my life and have never seen so many since. You folks in the UK take your air rifles and .22 very seriously over there. God bless.

The Ruger 10/22 in my opinion is the best all around rifle for everything from vermin to medium sized game. I like accessories, ease of use, affordable ammo, verity of ammo and the with a few high capacity magazines you can put a lot of lead down range. That land owner would do well to clean that area up ( mow the weeds/brush) then have you out a few more times. That 10/22 was not giving any quarter to those rats. The 10/22 is the lighting bolt of Zeus in the hands of a competent shooter.

I too, use a Primos trigger stick but also use the two point gun rest. This enables me to keep the rifle even more steadier, and the rest can comfortably hold my 243 with moderator and N750A scope with ease.

You got to love the 10 - 22 such an effective system. Here in Canada the Ruger .22 has downed a lot of gophers and its my first choice even over the .17HMR which is kind of unfair as it is so devastating and makes the skill level a lot less required. Great accurate shooting. Love your videos.

I definitely agree about semi autos. I usually hunt feral hogs here in TX, and for that sort of prey and driven hunting, quick follow up shots are essential, so even if you're Franz Albrecht a semi auto is still faster than a bolt action. My grail is the Sauer 303, and the HK SL series, but until I can own one I've been using a Winchester model 100 and it's a great rifle too

I had a similar experience in the '70's... after a few sessions - you start to see them in your dreams... I had to take a break... Then I set traps and at one point after leaving for a weekend, I returned to find two rats in one rat trap - as if their noses hit the trip bar simultaneously. A few days later I found that one in a trap had been half eaten by his buddies.... I had to quit... Altho I detest the little bastards, I really knew I didn't have the "stomach" for it any longer....

another great video ,,,I am in the USA and i have an S510 and really love it but like you i prefer my 22LR silenced for dense populations out in the open I never tire of seeing rats and other vermin , SHOT ,Trapped ,Zapped , and just plain blown up ,,i never use poison I have a ruger 10/22 , and a marlin as well .i like the tube fed marlin better cause it'll take not only 22LR ,but also 22 short and 22 magnum rounds giving me a variety of rounds for different vermin ,,everything from rats and raccoons to coyotes my preferred weapon for rats alone is a mossberg 22LR plinkster it's light and easy to shoot ,very reliable as well , i have shot over 100,000 rounds through it , i have a 25 round magazine i use specifically for rats ,, 22LR is great for rats , it's puts out their lights very effectively even if not a head shot ,,even shot in the ass will usually go completely through the rat

if he is using a sound moderator plus .22 sub sonic HP ammo the gun is almost silent. The action cycling makes more noise than the guns report. if you use .22 CB longs the head is only 29 grain at 750 ft PS against the .22 sub sonic at 42 grains at 110 ft PS and more or less silent the only draw back is there is not enough energy in the CB long cartridge to cycle the action so turning the semi auto into a single shot so you have to work the bolt manually to load the next round . the CB rounds are great if you are shooting in a place where structural damage is a concern

No question about the advantage of semi-auto, or of the Ruger 10/22 being the best of that batch. But I believe the comparative silence of the S510 air gun is a significant competing factor when ratting in an area where the repetitive 'cracking' noise of a .22 would not be acceptable or would attract unwanted attention. The obvious and ideal solution to that problem would of course be a suppressor -- but how legally permissible is that solution?

Michael Kessler the .22LR I use is silenced and is pretty quite to be honest. But since I e had the S510 I’ve not used the .22LR on rats. Hoping to be back at them when the cold sets in.

Must have watched this a dozen times - great vid. Can I ask a little about your 10/22? Are you using standard components? Any upgrade to trigger? I'm tempted but have heard some horror stories about the factory trigger and general accuracy of these. Thanks again

I'd like to see you use a rifle that takes .22 shorts. Safer to use, quieter and just as effective? I know the 10-22 ruger only takes .22 long rifle. Even so, I enjoy rats being dispatched, with less kicking and helicopter tail.

The stained baltic birch laminate is a Ruger option in several styles, and has been for at least two decades. 11-ply Baltic birch is commonly used in die making and high-end cabinetry.

A suppressed 22 with subsonic ammo is about as quiet as it gets. Would be perfect for this type of rat ridding.

Very good video. Robin you are a pretty good shooter, however, I noticed that most of the shots appear to be low. Wouldn't a head shot be better and you probably wouldn't have to double-tap them? Keep up the good work.

Have you tried using sub sonic .22 rounds? They would be plenty strong for crushing rat skulls and maybe even quieter.

All that sophisticated night vision an still an old sharadon .5 same as a 22 would do the trick the oldest but still good.

Sorry for the late reply, yes I do. Though I use subsonic amo. So as a combo it works very well. Keep an eye out for a up coming rabbit video that really shows how good the combo is for small pest control.

Watched a load of your videos, and found them excellent. I hate rats like anyone else, but humanely killing is only the correct way. And pleased it's only the vermin you are killing. Well done pal. Just come back into air rifling and can't wait to collect my HW100KT and NiteSite. Keep up the good work ! Thanks
