This is wonderful. My boyfriend and I just adopted a 1 year old rat terrier with very mild experience on basic commands and leash training. He’s very eager to learn and please but I know the leash training is going to be the hardest part.

This is an excellent video! It's nice to see that obedience is possible with any breed (my rat terrier definitely exercises her wandering instincts). Really cool to see your work.

Have a Dutch type farmers dog we call boerenfox and is almost identical to the ratterrier both in looks, behavior and function (guarding farms and catching small mamals like rats and mice). This is our second one and we have a boerenfox mix. All are very well behaved, behave great to other people and dogs, like to wander but do comeback if I call them, hardly ever nervous or scared not even during fireworks on newyears eve (during newyears eve fireworks is in every city and town in the Netherland and literally in every street)They only zigzag on leash like crazy, but I didn't work on that because they are so happy when they sniff around everywhere and feel bad taking that freedom . But have to be honest, no zigzag would make it a lott easier walking two dogs. Nice to see that even a lesser confident dog can still learn when older with the proper training.

My rat terrier Texas would be on the sidelines observing and rating your training techniques. Most obedient dog and Smartest creature I’ve ever encountered. He says GREAT HEEL-WORK! But down needs practice.all in all, Four paws up! And a belly rub pls, while we’re at it. 🐾 🐾

Rat terriers are very smart but they do have a mind of their own. One of mine is over a year old n she’s still not very well leash trained. I get pretty frustrated so we end up not going as often. She has lots of back yard to run but I would like to eventually control her instead of her controlling me.
