Really cool. I replaced the 153 Chevy II engine in our family CJ5 a few years ago with a 120hp Mercruiser. I'm a Mopar guy but I have an addiction to the 4 cylinder Chevys! I'd like to try a simple turbo setup on it in the future... more for altitude compensation than hp.

I've watched most of this series. I am by no means a mechanic. I would never be able to accomplish what you did with rat 10. I think it's really cool that you got it together and it's running as good as it is. Hopefully they'll be more content come springtime.

I wonder if you used Holley's Sniper EFI (2bbl) and its modern ECU would improve the drivability of your RAT 10? That shuttering around 2000 rpm would drive me nuts!

Or EBL Flash II from dynamic EFI and a 2 bar map sensor. The Rochester 220 isn’t a bad EFI system.

I love the build man your channel made want to build a street truck my self and never got a truck that was right for that build because I have a lifted truck and I walked upon a Mazda b3000 and swapped the motor and needed a lot of work and as of right know still building it but I was able to get it on the road to test some things out before winter hit

For my 90 Sonoma project I looked up aftermarket IRS swaps and was very disappointed when they are costing $5k and up. So I looked up cheap used IRS and saw plenty of late model mustang gt irs rear ends for only $2k with nice disc brakes etc but they will all need to be shortened quit a lot. So no I'm wondering how much work that would involve. Oh well time for traction bars and lowering blocks for now haha. But your living my dream brother! Although I went the tried and true easy route and swapped in a cheap 4.8l LS of course. Definitely looking to turbo it as well!

I’ve heard mustang ones are available but again require loads of modifications. I’ve seen tons of guys use old Jaguar rear subframes as well, supposedly they work great

I new a guy with a Cameo. It was quick and a old set of Centerline mags. He changed it with Luxors and hydraulics. I cant remember if he had 8" or 10" cylinders on front, 15"s in the rear. The three wheel was up there standing.

Are you using EBL Flash II for OBD1 tuning for the 350 TBI? I am building a 350 TBI but with a cam’d L31 and a custom built tbi. I had a chip burned from Harris Tuning to begin with but I am manual swapping it currently and no longer need transmission control for the 4l60e. Also, what 2 bar MAP are you using?

Cool truck dude. Love the custom s***. I would put a lil blow thru carb on that thing. If the ring gap is .028 or 30 put 20psi to her and let her rip. An LL8 Ameraberra 4200 would be amazing dude. They hold 500 600 hundred all day stock. Actually with a properly ported and decked head with the thinist head gasket and cams they outperform the LS with 2 less cylinders. I know u have seen the Nivlac 57 channel on Yt. Check them out. They are dirt cheap and plentiful.

Those 3.0 used to come in the old skylarks and such. Been around forever solid platform boat or otherwise. Only problem is they not best for boost as they top out at 3800rpm. Anything over 4k you'll be picking pieces of your engine up. Love the Corvette stuff would like to see it lay down a time. Hopefully next year u can dial it in.

I mean this thing seems happy at 5500+ rpm. They’re built rather stout. The Marine decal from this one rated them at 4400-4800. I really hope so but 13’s in the 1/4 at least, we will see how that goes lol

The marine decal clearly states 3800 rpm. I've had about 15 of them. That's recommend top crusing speed. Of course u can smash on it won't it won't last. I've got a 2007 bayliner 185 with Merc 3.0 never had 1 issue and I torture the thing. I do know tons and tons of ppl had had bad experiences with them. But mine has been amazing. Paid only 15000 Canadian pesos in 2007 and been torturing it ever since. Even cracked the block from racing other boats at 4500 rpm this is why the manual says 3800. JB welded that water jacket 7 years ago. Hasn't leaked or had 1 issue. Alpha 2 leg . Service every spring and antifreeze in winter and that's it. Not even a belt or filter change must be well over 1000 hours by now. It's just not a turbo candidate.

Top out at 3800rpm?? I think your one might have needed a bit of a tune lol I’ve only worked on one in a boat and it cruises at 4-4500 and it’ll do 5000+ all day with only mild top end work

Short term, yes. The Rochester 220 is a reliable unit and with proper tuning it’s great. Just gotta know how to tune them.
