Zanyar Said Mostly cuz I’ve been watching his Ratchet videos a lot (as well as Cvit’s Everything Wrong with YuGiOh series). TGB has done videos on OG R&C (as it relates to the 2016 reboot), Up Your Arsenal, Gladiator/Deadlocked, and the PS3 Future games, but doesn’t have a video specifically focused on Going Commando. I’m just being a jokingly facetious shithead by pointing out that when I DO find a video in my recommendations about GC, it’s from one KZbinr I enjoy watching for one specific topic rather than another that I watch for another topic. Going Commando is my favorite title in the series and I can't place the exact reason why. Something about the universe it built is just... inviting. I can't describe it. It's just comfy. Something about the story, characters, locations, creatures and weapons are just pure, unfiltered fun. Maybe it's just because I would play Going Commando with my imagination as a kid so I associate the game with that, but something about it is really special.

Yeah I am still mad after losing about 5 phat PS3s, two of those being backwards compatible so have had to settle for the inferior but more stable PS3 slim with a PS2 as backup. Thankfully that plays PS2 games that aren't on PSN store as wel. We had a PS4 at my parent's house but I felt bad about taking it when I moved out even though it was technically my christmas gift and still haven't taken the plunge to get a PS4 yet. Maybe if it proves to be reliable hardware-wise and is fully backwards compatible as promised when it was announced.

3:00 This slowdown didn't occur in the original PS2 title to this extent. PS3 was kind of terrible at fill rate and memory bandwidth (the VRAM had less than half the bandwidth of the eDRAM in the PS2) while the PS2 was kind of a God (for the time) when it came to fill rate.
@xXYannuschXx
@xXYannuschXx 3 жыл бұрын
Even running this game in PCSX2 emulator, this slowdown happens. eDRAM allowed some crazy things in games, according to a dev, it allowed them to automatically generate grass or leaves with just a few lines of code, that would run on the eDRAM thousands of times while the scene is being rendered, without the CPU needing to do a draw call.

I’m so glad someone loves the old ratchet and clanks as much as I do, to answer your question at 6:55 I liked the first ratchet and clank’s movement mechanics because it encouraged you to use different weapons in different situations because it was difficult to lock onto things while moving whereas in the other r&c games after they added strafe you can kinda just run around with one gun and spank everything that looks at you funny.

I have a lot to say, but before I get in to my mammoth response, I should preface by saying that I love these games to pieces. I've played all the PS2 Ratchet games from 0-100% multiple times (In fact, I still have the original PS2 copies, that I got with the console all those many years ago). I consider them the pinnacle of the era. Each one improved upon the last in multiple aspects. My point is: I'm unfathomably biased. Anyhow, point by point: - I would agree that this is a perfect sequel. It did, of course, fall flat in a few less-significant aspects, but everything meaningful was improved upon. - I really respect the way that the developers introduce and build upon basic mechanics. They executed it quite admirably. I was in the same boat as a kid though. Some stuff that I breeze through today was SO HARD BACK THEN. Fuck those Glider sections. - I find that the later you go in the game, the less Pet Enemies seem to appear. The density of Soldier and Big enemies seems to grow exponentially, while the Pets seem to show up at a steady rate. - I started with 1 and went to 2. The strafing system was the single most valuable and game-changing addition to the franchise. The first game required you to move almost exclusively forward in combat to ensure your shots connected. Each encounter required pre-planning and near-flawless split-second execution to avoid damage. Strafing opened up movement in all directions. It got easier to maneuver around the environment and dodge incoming damage, thus moving from a proactive style of play into a more reactive one. Mastery of the Lock-On mod and strafe-dodging are base requirements for the late game (especially when farming Moonstones. FUCK those Yetis.). Up Your Arsenal introduced Lock-Strafe mode, which I believe to be the pinnacle of this concept, but since this is about R&C2, I'll refrain from going too far into it. I could write an essay on the topic if I don't stop myself here. - The humor in these games is incredible, from the idiocy of characters like Quark and Dr. Nefarious, to the commentary during Annihilation Nation and Dreadzone challenges. - Platinum Bolts are a peeve of mine. I have less concern for the Gold and Titanuim bolts, but the Platinum ones are vital. It’s much harder to do stuff without the Lock-On mod, and the only way you can get it is by finding those sneaky silver nuggets. For me, that's not an issue; I've memorized the location of all of them. A new player, however, would have a seriously rough time later down the line without a good supply. Gold bolts upgrade your guns (but only in Challenge Mode +), and Titaniums purchased skins (for some stupid reason). Neither of those were as vital in the first run as Platinums are. The necessity of them is not something I'm a fan of. - To Hell with those ship combat parts. I give the devs props for trying something new, yet am VERY happy that the ship sections weren't carried over into the third game. That being said, they re-introduced them in the PS3 titles, and I think those worked quite well. - I gotta say, the moon maps are awesome. - Holy shit, you’re right about the chanting. o-O - That shot of Endako really speaks to one of my favorite things about R&C: the phenomenal level design. I don’t think I’ve ever seen a game do so much with so little when it comes to creating an interesting and aesthetically pleasing environment. - I think they went a bit overboard with the Clank bits in this one. There were simply too many bots. Props to the devs for ingenuity, but I agree, it’s very repetitive. - Ah, the ultimate foe of Megacorp: litterbugs. - I see you also know about that sneaky bolt pyramid in front of the TV. ;) - It’s a shame that the returning weapons aren’t that great. Maybe if they could be upgraded like the rest of the weapons, I might actually use them. - I prefer the bike races, mostly due to the controls. They feel smoother than the Hoverboards. - Gotta love how much character they managed to give Slim with just a pair of eyes and a shady voice. - And the fuckers just get stingier. >:( - Some of the Swingshots on that convoy were buggy as hell on the PS2. - Also, I REALLY hate the music on Siberius. Ear-piercingly repetitive. - I like the wrench scene too. You summed it up pretty well. - That space-hippie is the alpha and the omega. He grinds up all those crystals and moonstones, puts on space-Jimmy Hendrix, and snorts the fucking stuff. You know it, I know it, we all know it. - I think Tabora is my favorite planet. There’s something ludicrously satisfying about a wide open desert. - Thank GOD they revamped the health system after this game. I really dislike it. Mostly because by the time you have lots of health, stuff hits so hard that you can lose a good chunk, regardless of having armor. The problem arises because Nanotech replenishment remains at a static level throughout the game, as opposed to a percentage. - Giant Clank was really fun in this one, compared to the last. So much more fluid. Still a bit tedious though. - That facility glider section still manages to get me to this day every once in a while. - There’s actually 3 ways to get that boost. The third is the easiest, but it is an exploit. When in challenge mode, you can use the first person wall climbing bug to shimmy up the wall, jump off at the top, and snag it. Might still take a few tries, but shouldn’t take more than a half hour at most. - They KNEW that the price tags on story missions were bullshit. E.V.I.L. >:( - Those cage matches were awesome. - That Billy cutscene was hilarious. - I love the Thugs-4-Less. I find the idea of a murderous army of mercs being motivated by something as simple as a pizza party very heartwarming. They remind me of TF2. - I think that the Grinding section in the Silver City is amazing. Very clever use of the environment. - They started to go a bit wild with enemy density in the Silver City. Not only did everything do more damage, but enemies were also beefy and increasingly numerous. I think that Going Commando is perhaps the hardest game of the trilogy, mostly due to this annoying imbalance (at least, until you get to Challenge Mode and stock up on Mega weapons). - That prison ad kinda makes me wanna be incarcerated there. - Zodiac: neat idea, clunky execution. Hard to make a screen nuke ability work predictably. - Yes, FUCK planet Snivelak. Fuck the Nanotech Boost, fuck the armada of lizard-furries, and FUCK that mind-numbing, seemingly endless boss fight. - Yeah, Smolg is an awesome planet. Great visuals and platforming. Enemies were a bit monotonous, but what pisses me off more than anything is that demented fucking crab, who EATS 40’000 BOLTS FOR LUNCH. ASSHOLE. - Yep, that Grelbin Glider section took a toll on my controllers too. I didn’t know that the guy only had 3 days to work on the level. He has my sympathies. Still, he was MERCILESS with those damn Yetis. My middle fingers would ache from pressing the strafe keys for hours at a time. And for other, ruder reasons as well. I must say however, the wastes look absolutely fabulous. - “baseless speculation and crackpot theories” always kills me. - I also love that Damosel Grinding section. Wonderful design. - Those damn Protopets spawn quicker than rabbits on viagra. I remember spamming Mini-Nuke shots at them when I was a kid, because they were my waking fucking nightmare. - I think that Yeedil is indeed very well designed. The way the put it all together is really cool. Also that shot of the factory upon landing is incredible. - Who IS that little pink robot? Why is she there? WHY IS IT NEVER EXPLAINED? D: - I really dislike the Mutant Protopet. It just feels so out of place. It’s not that it’s not challenging, but his mechanics are just… lackluster. - I like to envision Angela’s fate this way: Tachyon murdered her ass. Plain and simple. Dark, but also plausible. To sum it up, great insights b0ss. I’m just as passionate as you are about these games, and it’s good to know I’m not alone in this deep, deep, deeeeeep geek-hole. That came out wrong. But hey, every game in this trilogy is a sex joke, so am I REALLY out of line?

As the veteran player that played all R&C (Mobile game R&C game was dope), you don't have to check any reviews of R&C 2, just read this comment above, there's everything you need to know. I want to add a few things: - R.Y.N.O. 2 was a much weaker then his older brother R.Y.N.O. 1. It wasn't "one shot-one kill" anymore and also it was more like a torpedo launcher then a rocket launcher in terms of projectile trajectory. Range was also nerfed: In first R&C, with R.Y.N.O. 1 you could aim the enemy that was at the other side of the universe and still hit him with rockets but the R.Y.N.O. 2 range was so weak that it makes me think that maybe buying the best armor in the game is a better choice then buying R.Y.N.O. 2 for the same price also (1 mil bolts). I know what Insomniac tried to do with R.Y.N.O. 2: They wanted to make it more CHALLENGING then the older version, not pay to win the game type of a weapon, but... R.Y.N.O. should be a R.Y.N.O. , Rips everyone a new one! Cool design tho, a minigun torpedo launcher hybrid. - Speaking of a devil, the last (best) armor in the game (carbonox armor) that we can buy is the goddamn POWER ARMOR FROM FALLOUT SERIES!!! A T-51 power armor with futuristic design. LOVE IT! - Angela Cross was ThICC... ( ͡~ ͜ʖ ͡°) - Visibomb Gun in R&C 2 was more like a tool to find crystals and moonstones on wasteland maps rather then a weapon - Zodiac is the waste of money - Shotgun in R&C 2 is more like a melee weapon then a mid range weapon (see DOOM 3 shotgun and you will know what I am talking about) - Soundtrack is GOD LIKE! Check a Todano Planet song kzbin.info/www/bejne/bpnElH94qJp1e6c - Spider Glove is meh - Skill points that requires SKILL (Wrench Ninja 2 skill point on Joba planet when you are in challenge mode... geeeeeeez...) - Extra minigames! :D - Glitched first person mode (Legendary "Wrench Climbing") - "Yetis are bane in my existence" - Ratchet while traveling through iced wasteland - ($($($(The Impossible Challenge)$)$)$) - Sheepinator - Bouncer is balanced and not OP weapon... wink wink - Meteor gun is only viable when you have Lock-On mode (Glad they fixed this weapon in R&C 3) - And I could just type and type and the list would be go on and on and on... so I will just end* this and say: - And many more so you need to check it by yourself!

Years later, I picked up the first _Ratchet And Clank_ and could not believe how much progress was made between the two games within such a short span of time. _Up Your Arsenal_ made some refinements to the core gameplay, but _Going Commando_ was a massive evolutionary leap.

Yeah I can't even begin to describe how much profound excitement there was for me just hearing about the improvements in the second game, let alone then finally getting to play it. It truly was a massive evolutionary leap that blew my mind in the most profound way, especially as a kid pretty new to console gaming (I got my ps2 and RC1 only a few months before RC2 came out, so it was probably only my second or third ps2 game). I love the gritty industrial style of the first game, but I can remember just looking at the art for the second game and getting goosebumps - it was the real ratchet and clank "future"

Those smaller enemys are known as "swarmmers". They really over use them in Deadlocked/Gladiator. I think they even have a mission called Swarmmer Soccer (in Ratchet Deadlocked/Gladiator) where you kill waves and waves of the little buggers.

RyanMK666 exactly this game looks exactly like a game teenagers would enjoy. But the cartoon like graphics and characters really appeal to kids like me. It's more of that movie you watch as kid, enjoy it but later you watch it as an adult and you start to realize what the jokes really meant but a kid would never understand. A good example is ratchet in R&C3 what he pretends to foodle his "chest area" and making kissy faces after watching the Courtney Gears ad. As a kid you would never understand what it means but as adult... "ratchet what the hell are you doing?"

ps4 "HD remake" as you call it is not a remake, it's a reboot. different term different meaning but the ps3 HD remasterd is a solid game. Remasterd is just the same game with new HD textures. I started with Ratchet 1 and no strafing made the game feel a lot harder. You couldn't just run in guns blazing because it was hard to target anything while moving around. Personally, with the first game being my favorite, I like the system of not being able to strafe enemies and lock on as easily. It changes up how you approach each group of enemies instead of constantly being able to lock on to them, move out of danger with ease, then rinse and repeat. In the first title, not being able to lock on to enemies made you think a little bit more about how you would approach each situation. For example if there was a large group of enemies like the sandshark section with skid mcmarx it would be easier to run around with the pyrocitor and burn them all to hell or for enemies with more health, the devastator or blaster might be a better choice to pick off enemies one at a time vs going commando where you can strafe the shit out of enemies with whatever weapon you want and constant do flips to avoid their attacks. I love both games but personally I liked the first games system more.

Even though a lot of people hate that you can't strafe in the og I think that's what sets it above the rest of the titles. Pretty much every R&C after the OG only require you to strafe, jump and shoot during any encounter + time freeze when you choose weapon. But the og required you to be more tactical and now as an adult it holds up the best! Not to mention the og soundtrack and og origin story is great!!

As much as I agree with alot of the points in the video, I originally played the 3rd game "Up your arsenal" first, which I felt like was the better game between the two because I liked the combat so much, whereas the 2nd game "Going commando" was actually the last ratchet and clank game I played of the original trilogy, as much as I respected what was going on in the 2nd game, all the improvements and how less of a step and even a step back in some aspects the 3rd game took, I can confidently say I still like the 3rd game more, probably because of my ruby tinted goggles that are also strapped so tight that its hard to imagine them not being bolted to my skull. Im just glad someone actually loves the 2nd game in the series as much as I loved the 3rd one, because its obvious at the time which ones were better, I just so happened to pick up the 3rd game first and fell in love with it, loved the video btw

3rd game had the best weapons and humor. But it had such shitty map designs compared to the 1st and 2nd. If only those qualities can be combined into one game. Story wise it's hard to say. Nefarious and Lawrence were amazing. The story of the 2nd felt weak but it really had the best map designs and gave the game its first strafe system.

The third game, in my eyes, was very disappointing. Since Insomniac was only given a year to develop the online multiplayer as well as the singleplayer, the singleplayer was left extremely lacking in level design and the social commentary that the first two games had. It's not as much of a "Ratchet and Clank" game as the first two.

11:35 I always thought they were chanting "Go, Ratchet!" 26:50 Those helicopters drop nanotech when you kill them, so you definitely do want to kill them if your health is getting low. 27:30 I don't think it was that bad either, the flight section on Angela's planet was way worse, and damn did it feel good to make it through! 28:00 I'm sure you've noticed that you go slower the higher you are; so I just went as high as I safely could, and did a normal turn in the room immediately after the start. Going so high that you start falling isn't necessary. 30:10 You actually get introduced to those weapon crates during the previous set of races, provided you did more than just the mandatory first race, you had to do about 3 to get access to the shorter alternative routes in the races if you wanted the skillpoint. 39:40 I'm not sure if I was just using it wrong, but the Zodiac always felt so weak and utterly useless - it's one of the few weapons I only get to unlock the corresponding skillpoint. I kind of destest the Rynocirator of R&C3, because it's just *this* piece of junk, but with more ammo - I'd say it's one of the few instances in the series (like the meteor gun) where the upgrade actually made the weapon worse. 43:50 I used to just exit the turret ones those missiles got close - that'd make them harmlessly explode on the turret. On my last playthrough, I adopted a strategy speedrunners used to use, which is using the chargeboots to escape to an earlier section of the level so you have access to a vendor, so you can pick him off at a distance with the RYNO 2, really makes that fight os much more tolerable. Much like Dobbo before it, this level really did have a sudden and massive difficulty spike... 45:10 I don't blame them, Grelbin is a very unpleasant level if you're not in Challenge mode, those Yeti are absolutely savage and soak up all your ammo in no time flat - It's not a problem in Challenge mode, as you'll also have an upgraded version of the Tesla Charger thing that'll soak up a lot of damage and zap most of them to death (plus stronger weapons). Also that glider section makes Dobbo's look like a cake walk, as you mention later on. 54:00 Not sure if it's different in your version, but shooting the bouncer at him a few times is usually enough to just about kill him near instantly...

Some feedback to provide: I don't think you need to go through the entire game as thoroughly as you did as it almost makes the video feel like a walkthrough at times. Throwing thoughts on levels and such is better than just describing every time what you're going to be facing. Allowing for the loading screen travels to happen even with cutscenes but making no comments on them at the time feels a bit strange as well. And for a nitpick the channel switching static noise with the PS3 problems and such times is a bit too loud. ;P To elaborate a bit, while you do mention the Quark scenes eventually, you could've gone into further depth regarding the cutscenes overall, or the way the game disguises loading screens in those ship traveling through space segments (just like in the first game), or how it seems to come straight from Spyro (with him flying through the portals and all). Just some thoughts that came to mind. :)

Everything from that intro to the soundtrack, gameplay, characters, direction, it’s always going to hold a special place in my heart. It keeps the 6 year old me alive inside. It truly is a spectacular, not only sequel, game.

Great video! made me feel really nostalgic. I found it funny to watch too because when I played this game as a kid it didn't have sub or language options for my native language so I basically had no idea what was happening in the game (apart from cinematics giving a general idea).

Infernox 2014 I didn't find it that bad except on Gorn. There some of the rings would be outside your fov so you'd have to fly blind sometimes

R&C 2 has always been my favorite of the series. Great video, take my like and subscription! Side note: I'll never forget how scared my brother and I were to try and buy this game at the store because "Going Commando" seemed really naughty to have in a title and we were sure our parents were going to forbid us from buying it.

I personally like Ratchet and Clank 3 better, though I admit it has a few problems here and there. But 2 for sure has the single best arsenal in the entire series, so many weapons unique to the game that are just so much fun to fuck around with that just never come back.

I found 3 to be my least favorite of the original ps2 trilogy. it's still a great game but disappointing. very linear levels with no branching paths like 1 and 2 had. very bland color palette. tedious side missions. planets that you revisit in the original game are either linear or just those arcadey defend the hub type missions. a lot of the new weapons are interesting on paper but aren't very good and miss the mark in terms of usefulness or fun factor, which explains why they brought back some of 2's weapons.

Yes levels on the 3rd game were horrible. But the weapons are a big enjoyment factor of the game. It's so much better than the first two games combined. Actually the new weapons are great (e.g rift inducer) but they also improved the 2nd game's weapons dramatically. Also the 4th game is underrated. I think that game was even better than the 3rd in terms of overall weapon design. It didn't have much of a story but the gameplay was second to none.

At least most of UYA's weapons are still useful halfway through the game.
