I think one of the biggest things that give R&C1 the best soundtrack is both the beats and atmosphere. It's hard to describe but the songs can sound both really foreboding and funky while maintaining a constant "clunker junker" vibe that fits perfectly with the planets, weapons and theming of the game

After spotting the falling object from the stars. The lone Lombax, Ratchet left the safety of his garage and ventured out to investigate. Veldin is known for its hostile fauna. Luckily for Ratchet, his trusty Omniwench is the perfect tool for a fight. Ratchet is smart enough to know that Nanotech can heal any damage that might occur. Look at him. Smashing crates and small objects with little regard for public property. Oh the hubris. Suddenly a stone wall blocked Ratchet’s path. But it’s a good thing that he brought his Bomb Glove for situations like this.

When we were kids, an American friend of mine remarked just how excited he was when he started playing Ratchet & Clank. He was a Spyro fan beforehand, and when he played R&C for the first time, he noted to me how R&C’s soundtrack very similar to Spyro. I was not much into videogames myself as a kid, but what I can say was that I could distinguish similarities in music. Mr Bergeaud may have used completely different instruments unlike Mr Copeland (Spyro soundtrack composer), but the bass and beats were definitely a passover from Spyro. Compared to the greater rock and harmony in Spyro, thus a immersive atmospheric feel, the music in R&C was more synthetic and exotic. You have electronic and digitally produced notes mixed with orchestral instruments, especially drums (another passover from the Spyro soundtrack).
Upon completing the game again recently, I never realized how banging some of these tunes were. The ost as a whole is really solid
