OH MY GOD YES! i was never a big fan of the dress even tho i love the movie and i found the biggest part about the dress i didn't like was the feathers (sorry azul) i just found it threw the whole thing off, looked bulky and took too much attention away form the actually dress, but if we were to get a light and very flowy train at the back that's kind of transparent or something, that would be so cool

I've noticed that almost all the "modern" barbie movie dresses keep using the same shade of hot pink/ magenta, while the classic barbie movies weren't afraid to use other colors (Annika's dress was purple, Ro's dress was blue, Genevieve's dress was a very unique strawberry pink mixed with a lighter pink, Odette had a beautiful pastel color scheme going on). I personally prefer the soft pink shade of Annaliese's dress over the gaudy hot pink modern barbie wears. Don't get me wrong, its a nice color and a lot of the magenta barbie dresses are pretty, but none of them give me that feeling of "wow. That is gorgeous and iconic" that the other dresses do. You don't have to turn the saturation up to 100 for something to look eye-catching and memorable Edit: ive also noticed the more recent barbie dresses are significantly less detailed? Which is odd considering the technology to model them has improved so much. They seem to be getting simpler in design, probably to look more like the dolls... But its still a bit disappointing to see all that potential being wasted

I absolutely agree with you the modern Barbie movies are all using the same color scheme and the dresses look the most basic out of all the older movies me and my sister love watching Barbie but when the the newer version of the princess switch came out me and my sister were very disappointed with the dresses the looked like the were from target (no offence to anyone) just low in quality the animation was really good but the character's were just boring I still prefer the older barbie movies

Agreee. We have far too many hot pink/magenta dresses. Also, the decline in detail i think has to do with the decline in doll quality. Mattel is putting nowhere NEAR the same amount of effort in their barbie movie dolls for the past like, 9 years maybe? Just look at the old fairytopia dolls, they had ROOTED EYELASHES! And elaborate hairstyles. Since the barbie movies are basically made to sell dolls, the design of the movie dress has to work on a doll and they’re made with that heavily in mind, and since the dolls have lowered in quality and detail, so have the movie dresses.

The old Barbie movies used more muted and elegant colours (and designs) and that made them look more dream-like if you know what I mean. The new movies use too many bright colours and aggressive pinks haha. It’s just too harsh in my opinion. Bring back the pretty pastels🌸✨❄️

Agreed, Barbie movies are for all age and gender groups, and it shouldn't matter when you started to watch them either. I'm 23 (turning 24 this year), and I still love these movies and own all of them - except the netflix release ofc - on dvd. I have loved these movies since childhood, and still watch the new releases. I don't care if someone judges, it doesn't matter. I find joy in them. and That's what should Mattel. (😂)

I would've liked them if they had stayed in their original form instead of them glued onto that strange pink cardboard, but I understand where you are coming from. I don't even think this is the movie makers fault since the movies are made with a specific doll design already given and not the other way round. Still, in terms of just regarding the dress (without the emotional background) the feathers aren't really fitting.

Just to let you know, they already did. Especially with Rock 'N Royals. The first few Barbie movies, they're not able to just yet. When 12 Dancing Princesses was released, they updated the animation for the skirts though. It moved smoother in comparison to prior films (Magic of Pegasus, Princess and the Pauper, etc.).

Honestly depends on how you look at it. Im not blonde but I understand why pink looks good on blondes. The face is usually the focal point and the warm tone of pink with the rest of the warm tone of blonde hair helps the face be the focal point. Depending on eye color if a blonde hair blue eyed person wore more blue it'd take away from the eyes.

my favorites: - Rapunzel's modern art dress from the painting montage - Elina's mermaid form (gotta respect the childhood Halloween costume) - All twelve dancing princesses, especially Ashlyn and Genevieve (sucker for bright colors and family theming) - Duchess Rowena's killer Rococo outfit (how come Mattel never made villain dolls?) - Alexa and Liana's peasant outfits( so much cuter than the gaudy princess gowns) - Eden's red dress (regal, Christmassy, modern, and again, gotta respect the favorite girlhood toy) - The three Christmas Ghosts, especially Future - Catherine's pink dream which looks more Barb-etic than Eden's outfit (again, why no doll Mattel?) - All four musketeers, one of the rare transforming gimmicks I actually really like - Snow Queen. Sweet mama that's a crazy villain design! - Hailey, just everything to do with Hailey - Kristyn's Giselle, Swan Queen, and battle tutu outfits. It really kinda sucks that movie couldn't stick the landing for the big, "slapped on a million toys" outfit, but it's still great and probably my second or third favorite Barbie movie overall - Barbie's hover boarding outfit - Sal-Lee's hover boarding outfit and any scene where she's wearing her natural hair - Isla's mermaid form and her adorable blue dress with the sea creatures along the hem

Her whole story arc is her being able to save the world because she’s disabled! Then they go and giver her wings, which are beautiful, but sort of rubs me the wrong way. I’m glad that they point out in Mermaidia that they aren’t permanent, though. It’s almost as if they’re metaphor’s for prosthetics.

I think what you're seeing with Swan Lake and Island Princess is that the dress really should be blue all throughout and the pink seems a bit shoe-horned into the designs. Like, I can imagine some kind of corporate meddling came in and was like "you can't do Barbie without pink!"

Idk, I personally loved the sharper blue and purple tones in the dress. Although I think the feathers were extremely tacky, I loved the dress by itself. As a girl with black hair, I've always thought blondes looked better on those bright blue colours. Like the very cool colours. For example Princess Aurora's blue dress in Sleeping Beauty was 10x more pretty than her pink dress.

I had rewatched all the ones I have (which is most of them lol) and the ones that were on Netflix around when Princess Adventure came out. I had been having a rough time with my depression and the Barbie movies helped me feel better. It was so fun to see different references and characters pop up in other movies. And I hadn't realized how funny Pearl Princess is!! It made me remember how much I loved the movies and I think most still hold up pretty well.

I was in LOVE with the swan lake dress but not at the end were she has wings and stuff i dont like that one but i think the one that she first transforms into with her hair down and without the wings and also the one she dances in with the short skirt, i think those were iconic

Decided to do my own short rating along with yours because I thought it would be fun (Only movie appearances tho and not the dolls) The Nutcracker (2001) - I really adore this dress, it's everything I wanted as a kid in ballet dress/tutu. I especially love the flowers on the chest and cuffs on the sides of the arm, it gives it so much elegance when she's dancing. It really screams 'sugar plum fair' to me which fits in the movie very well. 10/10 Repunzel (2002) - The dress is very fitting for the setting of the movie, but it's not my favorite. The sparkles seem too jarring on the sleeves, it may just be the animation, but in contrast to the rest of the dress, it feels like too much. She looks very elegant but casual enough. Still, the overall shape of the upper half (sleeves especially) feel too stretched and make her torso look stretched as a result also. 7/10 Swan Lake (2003) - I prefer the dress Odile wears when she is impersonating Odette. I would have liked there to be more white on the dress also since it's a swan dress. The design is fine, just not a fan of the colors. The sparkles are also very jarring when her pink torse is just plain fabric. Not a fan of the wings either, they should have been worked into the skirt instead of just jutting out of nowhere. 5/10 The Princess & The Pauper (2004) - I like this dress, it's regal and fitting, but that's it. I just like it. I prefer the blue version Erika wears, and I overall prefer Erika's dress. Still, it's fitting for the setting and the regal look of a princess. 7/10 Fairytobpia (2005) - Bland, It's just bland. I am not a fan of this dress at all. I'm not including how it looks with wings either since it isn't technically a part of the dress. The idea of a dress made out of petals is cool, but there are better designs/versions. Either way, still dislike this dress. 1/10 The Magic of Pegasus (2005) - I like both the purple and pink dress, I don't think I prefer one over the other. The pink one is slim for a change and looks very graceful as she skates. The purple dress is also great for a ballet-like dress without the puffy tutu, which she doesn't need since she is skating and it looks great in the clip you showed. Nice to see flatter dresses for a change. 10/10 for both dresses Mermaidia (2006) - Similar to the Fairytopia dress, but they did more with the concept of a flower petal-themed dress. I prefer the colors of this one and the bands on her arms, the entire torso I'm not a fan of tho. The roses on the chest feel clunky. Again, not counting the wings and just the dress alone. It's still pretty bland, but a step up. 4/10 The Barbie Diaries (2006) - Nothing to say but I hate it, everything about this dress I hate. 0/10 The 21 Dancing Princesses (2006) - Another ballet dress, yet this one may be the best one yet. It also mixes in a flower theme, and I love how the white and pink contrast with each other. The design is great, the colors are great, and it isn't puffy like a lot of the ones already mentioned. Love it. 11/10 Fairytopia: Magic of the Rainbow (2007) - Not including the wings, not much to it. I don't really like the tone of the rainbow colors on her torso, look too muddy. Just feels bland besides that, I don't like the torso at all and the skirt barely makes up for it. 2/10 The Island Princess - Similar to the Swanlake dress, I with the tail feathers were apart of the skirt, or even a train/cape. Feels very out of place just jutting out like that and they don't feel like feathers. The colors are nice tho, I like the design besides the tailpiece. I want more blue/purple barbie dresses, please. 9/10 Mariposa (2008) - This is my favorite and I think the best of all the fairy dresses. It's a mix of the flower petal theme and a Monarch butterfly. It's great with or without the wings, but the wings are amazing too. I love the colors and I love that they ditched the clunky rose petals in favor of sharper petals. It's perfect. 10/10 Diamond Castle (2008) - Ah yes, the Bi and Lesbian solidarity dress pair. I do like this dress, but I wish it looked more diamond-y or like the dress Melody and the other musicians wear. Both dresses are really pretty, but I wish they had a more crystal and roman look to them like the rest to fit better. 5/10 A Christmas Carol (2008) - Love both the red and white dress. I want more variety in the color of Barbie's dresses instead of always pink. They both look very elegant and are perfect for a holiday party. 10/10 for both Thumelina (2009) - It's cute, wish they did more with making the dress look like it's made out of petals tho like with the other fairy dresses, would make her really feel like a fairy and not just a tiny doll. 4/10 The Three Musketeers (2009) - It's just plain pink again, but I still like it. The patterns in the fabric and the layered skirt give it much more depth than others. The mask feels like it made out of plastic tho. Not a fan of the Musketeer version, it literally takes away all the depth the dress had and the boots also look like plastic. 5/10 A Fashion Fairytale (2010) - Very sparkly, she feels like a pop star and not a runway model. Kind of bland but the way it lights up is cool. Just not really fitting for the Paris fashion show theme. 5/10 A Fairy Secret (2011) - With the wings it's less bland, without them, bland. The wings really are the main attraction here, but this is about dresses, not wings. 2/10 Princess Charm School (2011) - It's nice, bit bland, feels crystal-y like I wish the Diamond Castle dresses were. I prefer who school uniform, all the formal dresses literally are recolors with slight skirt differences. 4/10 A Perfect Christmas (2011) - Engh, they did so well before but just HAD to make it pink. Maye with a different color scheme I would like it. The shape is nice, I guess. 3/10 The Princess and The Popstar (2012) - All sparkle, little to the design, bland. Prefer the Popstar's dress by VERY little. 1/10 The Pink Shoes (2013) - Adore the white outlines of the petals in the skirt. Her original tutu is so bland I'm surprised how well they did with this one. 9/10 Mariposa & the Fairy Princess (2013) - Mariposa what did they DO to you. Her original dress was so much better, change my mind. 1/10 A Pony Tale (2013) - Ew. 0/10 The Pearl Princess (2014) - The only mermaid one on here so far because it's an actual dress. I love it. It translates to an underwater setting perfectly. Transformation is also the chefs' kiss.10/10 The Secret Door (2014) - Did not know this existed until now and never want to see it again. 0/10 Rest of the dresses from this point on rate from 0/10 to 2/10. Apologies for any typos and I'd like to see your own opinions too if you agree or disagree with any
