As a movie girlie, I highly recommend going to the cinema alone, ESPECIALLY if you’re pivoting towards doing more videos about new releases! You can concentrate better when you’re not also thinking about socialising with whomever you’re there with. I also recommend looking into whether there is some sort of movie pass available to you in Australia (I don’t know what cinema chains you have there but maybe one will have an option that allows you to see more films for a monthly fee than if you were to pay full price for each visit). If you find one, it might allow or even encourage you to see more films and get the full, grandiose cinematic experience. 😊 I love finding smaller films that aren’t as high budget or well publicised because then I feel like I’ve discovered hidden gems. 😊 ALSO, Top 10 lists are a big thing for movie(/TV) channels and Letterboxd is a great way to keep track. You can start making a list for 2024 where you start adding and ranking things as you go, adjusting as you see fit, and then when you want to make it at the end of the year, you won’t have to go through everything you watched across 12 months. I like to keep my list private so I don’t spoil the ranking before I’ve made my Top 10 of the year video (I’m editing mine now!) 😊

Thank you!!! Such great advice, I’m gonna look into if my cinema has that

I personally think 'the ballad of songbirds and snakes' was the best movie release of the year and perhaps of the past couple of years. I went into it with the lowest expectations because traditionally prequels never work out but I was pleasantly surprised I became a fan and read the book. After catching fire I will remember this film the most.

Saltburn was so damn good. So delicious! And that damn plot twist....whew
@laura_B248 ай бұрын
so true, and because the plottwist is so good and big I can't tell anyone what happens without spoiling it so I'm just telling everyone "it's about these two guys who meet each other at college and then the summer after college they go to one of the guys family home and then things happen, it's a thriller and that's all I can say just watch it going in blind" WHICH IS SO FRUSTRATING
@PRINCESS83328 ай бұрын
I think that for barbie, ken was the main character because it is supposed to make us think about how men are always the center of attention. they always come up with "what about us" when women are discussing their issues

i watched red, white and royal blue wayyyyy to many times (daily, for weeks oops) and i also read the book i think id like the movie more if i didnt read the book first bc the movie is wayyyyy to fast paced and there is quite a few scenes missing but the chemistry was really good between the charactors/actors also i dont like the directing i just love the actors anyway rant over bc i actually loved the movie haha

I love seeing you’re take on things, you always bring up things I’d never think of. Just to add to the Saltburn section , as an Oxford girlie myself, Oxford University isn’t in London it’s in Oxford which is around 2 hours away from London. I don’t blame you for thinking this though as the new Wonka movie also combines Oxford & London as if they’re interwoven but they’re two separate cities
@sashasokolov4448 ай бұрын
I think that’s due to social media. Somehow, someway it was “established as a fact” that Oxford and London are interlinked

I laughed my ass of to Bros, but perhaps my older age (38) has something to do with that, much of the lines are very relateble and the storyline has many nostalgic punches i guess.

Funny thing Luke! The movie «the menu» is accually based on a restaurant that is in a city i live in norway, bergen. I thing the writer or director was there and got inspired by it. You are driven there by a boat, and can’t get back before the boat gets you again, but it’s a sea food restaurant on an island in the ocean😁

Followed you on Letterboxd, I feel like a lot of your opinions line up with mine! I agree with everything you said on the Little Mermaid and Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes. Also, I’ve been really glad to see Saltburn get some recognition recently! I thought it was so much fun, I’ve seen people trying to critique its social commentary but I don’t think it really was trying to be a deep cutting social critique? I think it was ultimately supposed to be a really entertaining movie and I think it succeeded at that
@LadyJenevia8 ай бұрын
Luke, if you loved Rachel Sennott and you loved Red, White, and Royal Blue, you need to watch BOTTOMS. Rachel is one of the leads AND she co-wrote the screenplay. Nicholas Galitzine is a supporting lead. The basic non-spoiler premise I will give you for the movie is “Gay Fight Club” and it’s in my Top 10 for the year (and I saw over a hundred 2023 films so I truly mean it when I say it’s that good! 💥🥊) 😄🎬✨

About your "Nope" review -- if you are referring to the monkey subplot as the second storyline, that storyline is essential. It relates to the message of the film being that a wild animal cannot be tamed. (SPOILERS): Ricky, who is the former child star and carnival owner, attempts to use the tragic accident with the monkey and then later the alien creature to advance his career. But he eventually fails because the alien, like the monkey, can't be tamed by humans. I think that this connection underscores the meaning of the film and grounds it in reality.

I love Nina’s acting but it feels like she is being severely underutilized everytime I see her in something. She really showed range in TVD and I would love to see that again. Also I wished she was in on her parents being criminals lol that would have been a great twist

Respectfully disagree with Red white and royal blue I thought the chemistry was stale between the actors I also think the movie was way to fast past to establish any sort of connection between the characters.

The ballad of songbirds and snakes was a 2 out of 5 AT BEST Btw Dr Gaul is not a doctor, she’s the head Gamemaker and the Dean was the headmaster of the Academy (he did create the games but he wasn’t a game maker). If u didn’t realized that while watching, it says a lot about the movie… Corio was always evil, he didn’t transformed at the end he was always like that, but that’s something the movie couldn’t portray. The all thing was sad
