This year, at 71, I learned how to can. My grandmother canned but my mother never did. It was a very satisfying feeling to see those finished jars. It gave me such a feeling of pride and accomplishment. Now I’ll have more to ration.

Right on, Patara!! Here's a No 1 step to try: Eliminate fast food. My brother, who has a PhD in mathematics calls it "poor people food". His family has never eaten it. Why? Because eating it makes YOU poor. Save that money and cook at home!

Saw a woman in a grocery store pitchin' a fit because the cookie isle was out of family's cookies. I smiled and said, "I thank God He pointed me to learn how to make cookies." She retorted, "It must be nice." I responded, "My sons are thankful plus one of them bakes cookies with his kids, so yes God showed me a way to create a true memorable legacy."

The coming days is the reason we prep, why we spend our budget on animal feed, farming and canning supplies, why we forego new cars, vacations, fancy clothes and spa treatments. We buy used and sturdy tools, we fix our equipment, we buy boots and clothing that keep us protected in the elements. What we do is not a hobby or fad, it’s a commitment and lifestyle to assure we survive the future without our collapsing government and economy. If it does not come to be there is going to be one momentous hootenanny.

I am looking at another increase in my groceries and feed issues. Walmart went up another five dollars on their black sunflower seed for forty pounds. I am an elderly retired farmer that moved to town recently and keeping a few hennies and retired barn kitties. They are my daily joy in my home and little backyard. I also fees the birds, squirrels and a whistle pig from my bedroom window. I also have city deer that come to my backyard as I keep a mineral block for them. I was going with less for my self and feed my animals before myself as they bring me daily joy. Now I am scared I won't have enough.. of course human food is scarce and expensive but also is pet food. I ration for myself but my fur and feather babies? Keep telling the reality of this time. I am trying now to worry about turning on the heat as my money is almost to zero by the end of the month. I pray for everyone.

This is such a good video. I love reading everyone's comments. I have been a "prepper" all my life. As a child I found some ration books in our attic and asked my mom about them. There was also an older Home Care nursing book about taking care of sick or injured family members in your own home. Chapters on how to make their bed with them in it, change bandages, and keep a sterile field in the sick room. There was another book on sewing that showed how to reconstruct a man's suit for a woman, or to make shorts or trousers and a jacket for a little boy, and for a little girl, a dress or a skirt and bolero. I had no idea about those things, but as you said, Patera, little eyes & ears were watching and listening. My mom taught me how to make jelly. When I moved to Oregon during the Hippie era, (was Not a Hippie) I bought two canners, one water bath one pressure cooker and turned the bountiful fruits and veggies into a proud & tasty display in my cabinets. As a single mom without child support for many months, I would buy a pound of hamburger, divide it into fourths, peel broccoli "stumps", chop them fine, mix other veggies into the burger and make hamburgers or whatever was on my menu plan. Yes, my mom taught me to have a menu plan for the week before you went shopping which I did. When I was granted $105.00, a month in Food Stamps, it was like I won the Lottery! I always made meals from scratch, (still do) so we had an abundance of basic food items and lots of vegetables. During that time I still limited meats and packed lunches for all of us, there was no school cafeteria. It was tough but I did it and many other young mom's have done it too! Necessity can be a tough mother but can be a delightful aunt who can challenge you to higher ways of thinking. Change your mind change your life! I feel very blessed and rather spoiled to have had all the experiences I've been given. Thank you for spreading the word. I don't want to see any child or grown-up go hungry.

I canned about 10 pounds of ground beef, saved the grease/oil and clarified it into tallow and used it for frying my French fries. Will start rationing detergent, shampoo and conditioner, bleach, and everything else I can think of. Thank you for being a reminder that we need to ration. God had put it on my heart a couple days ago.

Folks, if you feel afraid because of what Patara has said, then YOU need to check YOUR toes. It is you that needs to step back. Even if Patara listened to the fools and stopped talking about this, that does not mean the problem goes away. That just means less people prepare for what lies straight ahead. Stop shooting the messenger and get busy getting prepared for what's coming, because in the end, you are responsible for you. God bless, everyone.

"Use up, Wear out, Make do, or, Do Without." Passed down verbally for generations in my family. The "make do" has made my boys learn to be creative....and they love sharing what they've come up with. I take my husband's stained hoodies...remove the hood and torn cuffs, and stich the collar and cuffs with embroidery thread or ribbon...turn it inside out (to hide the stains), and it's an acceptable garment for me to wear around for chores without looking to "frumpy". (Although, I do have those days too!) The point is, the rationing CAN become a bit of an enjoyable challenge.

I’ve been stocking up on canned goods and canned meats. I canned tomatoes this summer and today I made 14 1/2 pints and 3 pints of grape jelly. I have been stocking up on dried beans and rice. I have some other things I have bought a few things of. My son and I have generators and a my buddy propane heater and some propane and gas set back. I’ve bought seeds for a garden next year. Still need to buy more things. I live in north middle Tennessee in a rural area, the nearest store is seven miles away. Nearest neighbor is 1/2 mile away. God bless you and your family.

That's so sad people think you're fear mongering. Your not. It's a fact things are changing. Not for the best. Start prepping. I'm 63 yrs old. Been prepping for about 4 yrs. If you don't. I feel for you. No one is going to help you. You can go to food banks and get extras to put away. Grow a garden. Buy things on sale. You can do it. I did pray and stop fearin. Fear is not of God. And No I don't have help. I'm doing this on my own. My support comes from the Father. Blessings

Something I was taught as a young person to help not only conserve, but to cut down on laundry is to re-use your bath towels AT LEAST twice. You are clean coming out of the shower. Ladies who use 2 towels, one for your hair... your hair is clean so when you are done, hang those towels up and use again. Simple advice... but I had to learn it. ❤️ I raised my family like this. Now, common sense is VERY important. If you have an infection or are menstruating, wash your body towel each time. ~Blessings

Amen. Sister. I have to practice intermittent fasting because of my medicine. I am a cancer survivor. I was put in a group with 11 other people. We were put on a strict diet and later tested to see if we followed the diet. I was the only one who passed. They all could not change the way they ate. They could not give up certain foods. I was not scared and I did what I needed to do. I beat cancer. I have to control my eating habits. I have to for my health. I am a property caretaker on a 5 acre homestead. My job provides housing and after other expenses my grocery budget is $10 a week. I made it work. I built up a long term pantry. I built up enough supplies so I am good. We can all get through whatever is ahead this winter. With store shelves being empty, we have to all prepare so we do not have depend on the grocery store because the stores are not going to be there with everything that we need on the shelves.

Our washer and dryer are having issues and hubby was talking about just buying new ones. I did a quick search on youtube and found repair videos, so I'm going to fix them instead and order extra parts. So often we just throw things away and buy new when many times the fix is easier and certainly cheaper than buying new. I'm the mechanically inclined person in our family so I am always trying to find ways to fix rather than replace. We all really need to change the way we think about things like that.

This video was worth revisiting today. My husband lost his job with a major manufacturing company 3 weeks ago and has had to take a job making $10 less than he was making. The local air force contractors are laying off some 1700 people this summer as well many other companies here in middle TN. Thanks to you, Pinball, and a few others, we have been as prepared as we can be in our situation. Our food preps have been a huge help and I am not in fear of my family going hungry, but I now have a bigger drive to go bigger with this years garden to replenish what we are now beginning to tap into. Keep driving this home. Continue to encourage people to just start somewhere with growing food. Break the dirt and go for it!! I am seeing many just starting to wake up and think their gardens have to be in a box and pin pretty. Keep spreading the word and doing the good work God has given you to do.

When ever I buy hamburger I get out the large bowl and mix in oatmeal, onion and garlic powder, I then portion out what I want in each bag. So, if I bought 5 pounds I'd have 7 bags of meat. We are doing meatless spaghetti, we were both raised really poor and know what it is to be truly hungry. Most people don't know what that is, we went through periods in our lives where we didn't have running water or plumbing in our house. During the recession I would start with one large piece of meat and then use small portions of it all through the week. You would start Sunday and Monday with your own piece of meat, the meat in dishes would progressively get smaller as the week went on. This time with what is going on is different, we now can't afford that big piece of meat and it takes up to much room in the freezer. Now, it's small packages and what can I put 1/2 of that ham pieces in to make it last a couple of days. We planted 20 pounds of potato's this year, there already aren't any left. I don't mean we are going without food it means I need to think differently now than I did before. The circumstances of what is going on is different, start rationing now is the answer. Get your love ones used to meatless meals, having buttered noodles with peas for dinner, put a little less coffee in the coffee maker. From what I have heard so far people are having trouble getting shoes, do you have a couple extra pair? It's 44 degree's tonight we are both in jogging clothes acting like we are freezing when it's not really that cold. That's what you do when you are riding the edge of the wave. Am I scared, yes, I'm 63 years old and I have prepared, but I don't know what's coming and to old to fight the way I used to. Hunker down, get ready and wait. Love your channel thanks

Laundry detergent rationing: except for underwear and heavily soiled clothes we wear several times before washing. I turn hangers the opposite way in closet to indicate a previously worn garment. Clothes that has been worn relaxing, sleeping or doing a desk job only need half amount of detergent per load. We only use full strength for clothes worn doing outdoor work or workouts. 1/2 cup vinegar added with detergent in the wash cycle disinfects clothes, prevents static cling in the dryer and prevents those we hang dry from getting stiff.

Stretching ground beef: make it into meatloaf, using old fashioned oats instead of bread crumbs. It's much more filling and more nutritious. While plain leftover hamburger is unappealling, leftover meatloaf makes a great grab and go lunch.

You speak truthfully! I'm going to get that book. One quick thing, when you're thanking the many "brave men", please don't forget all the women who've servered beside them, going all the way back to the Revolutionary War. Many women have died from injuries received in combat, whether or not they were combat troops. For example military nurses were killed in WWI, WWII, Korea and Vietnam. I speak not just from the history I was taught in school, when they still taught fairly accurately, but I speak as a veteran of the Navy. I'm a disabled veteran, but not from wartime service. I have a number of good friends who servered in everything from Desert Storm to present day, some of whom have combat injuries. I'm certain that this was a honest oversight, but, so very many of these women feel like they're invisible to most people, as if their service was without any value. God bless, and please keep preaching the truth!

PREACH SISTAH!!!!!! You know, my mom is still living (she's 78) and she lives with us. We thought we were doing HER a favor by moving her into our home. It turns out, my mother is such a wealth of information and she's the best gardener I know. She comes from a big family who grew up in the country and their garden fed their entire family. Im trying to say that WE got the best deal when she moved in! We'd be in trouble if something happened to her and we needed to rely on our own knowledge. Both my hubby and I are spoiled children of the 80s and didn't pay the attention to our elders the way we should have. NOW.... we're on a crash course and taking notes from my mom and her sisters. They laugh at us because they knew this day would come. Lol. Anyway, you're not the only one who thinks the way you do. You're very wise and an asset to society. Thank you for what you do!

Speaking of meatless meals, I discovered a new recipe that I love, straight from my garden: I take about 5 okra, 10-15 green beans, 10 cherry tomatoes,a little onion. I chop them all up then add some garlic Garlic , and some Italian seasoning, salt, and pepper. I sauté it in a frying pan in a little olive oil. When it’s done I put some Parmesan cheese on it. Yum! I could eat it every day. As a side note you could put whatever veggies you want.

I see a scenerio of limited household allowed in store with limits on purchase maybe only people with a shot card. I can see where there will be those that wait in parking lots to attack and grab your groceries. It wont be safe to shop if we still can. thats what I am feeling.

Hey Patara, thank you for mentioning pinto beans and cornbread...I've never tried it, not being from your area, in fact I've never heard of it, but I immediately looked it up, found a recipe that looked good and I'm going to try it. If you have any other meal ideas that are low budget and filling, please pass them along in your future videos. Thanks for all you do to help people understand and get through the current global situation.

OK I'm a believer. I went to my local grocery store 2 days ago to buy some frozen veg to stock up and there were none. It's not because people are panic buying but that the deliveries are short coming. Geez there was nothing, not even a bag of corn or peas. Thank G I still have my freezers full!

I've always thought this way on many things because I was raised by parents born in 1929. This is a good reminder. Just wish companies would make better products because they're more disposable nowadays than they were many years ago, even including major purchases. ~ Laurie

I don't have a washer and do laundry by hand (not easy with arthritis), but if you wash lightly soiled things first, you can reuse the wash water 2 or 3 times, saving on water and soap. I knew someone with a washer who, after filling the washer, would have it drain into a farm sink, then reuse that water.

We try to use every scrap from our animals we butcher. We preserve our eggs when we have abundance. Nothing goes to waste I have the hide from the steer made into gloves and laces. Traded half of the hade for 8 pairs of gloves and a bag of laces. We have to have that mind set.

People are afraid and those that have been in denial are the most afraid. They are using their energy to lash out as if that will make it less real. It’s okay to be afraid but use that energy to take action for yourself and your loved ones.

A Great Depression IS coming. This time, right now, is the beginning of it. I don't think it could be fixed now no matter what. May The Lord protect us. Tip--When you need ground beef for a casserole, spaghetti, etc,...try using slightly less beef and mix in some finely minced cooked red beans, such as Cranberry or Pintos. I usually try to add 1/2 to 3/4 cup of the beans (I pulse them in my food processor--not to the point of being a paste but just dhort of that) to 3/4 pound of beef. No one in my family has figured out what I'm doing, and it's healthier and saves money.

I remember my great grandmother do things like that. She would mix flour or dry bread in her ground meat to stretch it. She lived though the great depression.on a farm . They didn't feel the depression so much because they already lived a life of rationing and living off the land.

LoL :-D I love the tea bag story. My parents married in 1952. They didn't have much. They told me stories of sharing one tea bag for a week and only having a cabbage and two potatoes for a few weeks. They taught me to appreciate everything because it's a gift from the Most High. I gave up my clothes dryer last year, I have an awesome clothes line. My power bill went down more than 60%. I've been planting my garden and growing my goats and chickens. We all need to be more self sufficient . Thank you for all your videos, they have helped me with great ideas. Be blessed. Shalom

Just read an article on truck drivers walking off jobs due to mandates of vaccines. 70% of all goods are delivered by trucks and if you think stuff is on short supply now wait till the truckers say to heck with everything. Current administration says they will ok 18-21 year olds to drive big rigs. Not sure how that will work.
