Next time you give it a try you will find the best results by first Sanding down to at least 1200 grit using a random orbital sander then using the special wood filler they sell for that use. Next primer sand base coat color like silver under for gold over the then after you got the color you want several coats of clear Sanding with 1200 wet sandpaper between coats till last coat then polishing then wax or ceramic. The for the binding tape up after Sanding with frog tape covering just the binding pull off before clear coating. Good job with the repaires

Thanks for the heads up. That color is rich! Bro’ country should always be contraindicated.

Some might say, you were going for the gold. Others may wonder why this lacquer isn't suitable for bro country...I am just wondering why you didn't stop when you discovered the case was a suitable plastic bag holder. 😀 Excited to see the end results!

Never save potentiometers. They ARE a wearing part. ALWAYS replace them if the guitar is to be used. Leave to old pots in the case.

I think many wonder why the paint isn't suitable for contemporary Christian and bro-country (best we don't ask what bro)? It does seem that the paint might.be okay for classic electric instrumental but they didn't say. Too bad Ventures, Duane Eddy et al. I am guessing that the paint manufacturers are having a little fun but leaving out what attracted me to this instrument is a gaffe.

The somewhat elongated speckle look was also unique, created when you physically stripped paint off the guitar. It would have been an interesting and unique base.
@mjay4700
@mjay4700 Жыл бұрын
I agree it had an interesting look. That sort of creamy tan base with black grain.. Had a very old school grungey look to it that would've been pretty cool with a clear gloss lacquer sprayed over the top. However I can also see how many wouldn't find it attractive and then you also have the unsightly repairs, damage, etc.

I like the look of distressed wood, I would have totally left it at that and just clear coated over it.. Or if I'm feeling more art, I would spray that gold paint in a pattern that would look like the union jack British flag, but the triangles in between the cross lines would be unpainted showing off the distressed wood look

You sly devil. If you'd just announced you had another channel I would have gotten around to it eventually, but splitting this project into parts meant I had to come over right away and see this poor guitar go from sad shape to more hopeful and shiny. Love that you are pursuing your adjacent interests and learning new skills along the way.

Fingers crossed that clearcoat application accidentally results in inability to reproduce skah music. Is it common to scrape the binding or tape it or maybe jury rig some sort of membrane? That looked like a huuuuge pain in the ass. Everything else made sense, then you got to the binding and it was like "oh...shit."

Okay is this you tube or fox news here because it sure seems like there's a whole lot of comments of either jealousy going on by the competition or let's just say those that want to believe and act is if they are all experts in this field folks. I mean really folks. Unless you are willing to learn more about the craft or the field well I don't believe that any of the rest of us on here care about your smart ass comments thank you!

I have the same guitar in 6 string form, and in excellent condition. They were made by Eko in Italy. Mine is branded Balilla, which I understand was a brand they used in Canada. Seeing this video, I can see that the unusual contour of the top, in the neck pickup area is intended, and not the result of pressure over time. Good job on the patching!

I'm so glad you continued work on this project and added to the original video from a few months ago. I was worried you lost interest because it was a complex and difficult rehabilitation. Also the luthiers and other guitar "aficionados" were quite rude in the comments of the previous video regarding your choices in this repair. I hate it when people aren't constructive in the comments. This looks really great. Can't wait to see the reveal.

Thanks for keeping it real! Showing us you had to undo what looked like hours of work must’ve been difficult. It could’ve easily been cut out of the video like other restoration creators might’ve done. Same with your other channel too, sticking to more realistic results! The hobby has been overrun with so many carpenters that strive for absolute perfection with hundreds of thousands of dollars in equipment when you get similar results in your garage.
