Ratty Muscle Car 1969 Dodge Dart Swinger 340 4-speed Barn Find

THE CAR IS SOLD AND GONE!
We finally got the ratty muscle car 69 Dart project running. We did a ton of work to get this "barn find" car back on the road. It was last plated in 1978 and sat for many, many years. Here is a quick walk around tour plus you get to hear it running.
This is considered a "ratty" muscle car because the car visually looks aged, worn, old, and perhaps ugly. But, mechanically this thing is excellent. It has all new fuel and brake parts, a freshly rebuilt 1969 340 Mopar engine, rebuilt A833 4-speed manual transmission, etc. It has a 1968 340 Dart cam which is a bit hotter than the stock one.
This will probably be the final video on this car, we accomplished what we set out to do which is to take it from a garage it was hidden away in for years and get it running and driving and back on the road to be enjoyed for years to come.

This car looks so much like the GTS I had when I was in the Army in 1971 but mine had a 383. My dad sold it when I went to Germany and I've never seen another like it.

My brother spotted it parked in a landscaping company yard. Later it was moved behind the building into a small garage. It took the guy a few years before he was willing to part with it, he really didn't want to. Finding things like this is not easy!!

This should be restored what was the original color was it purple it’s hard to tell if you don’t do something we’re it’s rotting it’s just going to spread unless you have a heated shop to store it

Original color was gold. The car was repainted purple and then black. I have since sold the car, the new owner planned on restoring the body.

I had a Swinger 340 4-speed bought new. There wasn't a 383 that could keep up with me, 270 HP I believe was significantly underrated and typical of MOPAR. Nothing sounds as good as a MOPAR. Thanx for sharing the video. 👍👍😎

My favorite. I've had four darts. '67, two '69's and a '72. My last one was a black (ratty paint job) '69 340 4 speed. So this car hits home. Such great proportion s. I love them!

VIN shows it’s an original Swinger. I believe GTS got chrome trim down the sides and maybe different trunk trim too.

the cam we chose was from a 68 Dart 340 with manual trans, a little lumpier cam that was apparently only used in that config. Definitely sounds AWESOME!

I actually bought the sum 340 cam and installed it in my 69 satellite and it sounds something like yours at rev, but I don't have the tail pipes. So at idle sounds a little different .

It’s not ratty unless it’s got no frame rails I’m just priming mine black with a clear coat till spring then I’ll paint it a little work and you could have a nice dart

Mine too! I bought a 69 Dodge Dart Swinger brand new back in 1969, and not a day goes by I don't regret letting it go a few years later. 340 4 barrel carb, automatic torque-flight transmission. I loved that car.

Yes it was plated as an antique but I had extra insurance on top of that (a package policy) providing extra coverage.

Where I live anything 1987 and older can be played as antique. But your maximum payout if it gets wrecked is $800.

Perfect! My kinda car. I got a same sorta car. '70 Maverick, bad primer, no heater or headliner, front disc brakes, 3.89 locked 9-inch rear, 300 HP 302, AOD, only one in town. But I would love a 4-speed, 340 Swinger for sure. I did have a $50 '73 318 TorqueFlite Swinger that ran for years with no problems. My first car was a '51 Plymouth Businessman's Coupe. I like old Mopars.

Nice. I had a 70 Dart Swinger 340-4speed and it was a lot of fun. I also owned a 72 Dodge window van that had hubcaps like the ones on you car, the old dog dish caps. I like them more now than I did when I owned my van. Good video.

The whole exhaust system came from TTI. I believe the mufflers are Dynomax (the car is sold or I would go check).

Had a 69 gts 4 speed 318 red with white interior and white vinyl top(ordered that way and man was she beautiful) while in high school. I traded a 71 Vega and 600 dollars for it. Wish I would have never ever got rid of it. Traded it for a 71 Charger. The Charger was great but the Dart was my favorite. But guess what I just bought a rough 67 today and I am going to try and build it back to my baby's specs. It will take a while but I hope my health (diabetes and heart trouble) and fiances let me. I am fixing to turn 60 and have missed that damn car for 40 years.
