Prog rock. I'm not sure what the lyrics mean but they are quite whimsical and not solely about dreaming of being an Eagle since Eagles don't talk, tell stories or cast spells.. "They came flying from far away Now I'm under their spell I love hearing the stories that they tell They've seen places beyond my land And they've found new horizons They speak strangely but I understand"

This song is majestic.It's prog pop-rock with arty phsychedelic dashes.Abba never bored us.They always experimented and 'toyed' with diversity no matter their pop-folk main music ground.

Bjorn was inspired to write the song from a novel (Jonathan Livingstone's seagull).No need to analyze it too much.Just 'spread your wings and fly'.This is more than a song, it's like an adventurous trip. Enjoy.

An incredible track. The vocals and then that guitar at the end are👌 I recommend 'I'm a Marionette' off the same album. Very different and it rocks.

Majestic perfection, in the way Abba do so magnificently ❤. Last week it was voted 6th favourite Abba song by a poll conducted by the Official Abba Fan Club. It features in the Voyage concert in London, where it accompanies an animated section. Pure pop, by pop royalty ✨️

Progressive rock style and the song was inspired by Bjorn reading a popular book in the '70's titled Jonathan Livington Seagull. Pan flute is used and I love Benny's grand majestic synth keyboards on this. The electric guitar riffs are excellent and was performed by Lasse Wellendar who also toured with Abba and this song was one of the highlights in the show. (RIP Lasse...he passed this past year). This tune was one of the last songs in ABBA The Movie as the band takes a magical mysterious elevator ride.

Hello again, so happy to see you return with more ABBA songs "Eagle" (1977) It is the longest song of ABBA, almost six minutes It is the opening song of their fifth album, entitled "ABBA The Album" (1977), which coincides with the release and premiere of their film "ABBA The Movie" (1977), which records ABBA's memorable tour of Australia and throughout the ABBAmania "Eagle" was released as a single in a few countries, It's a shame it didn't get a chance to be the third single from "The Album" in the UK (following "The Name of the Game" and "Take a Chance with Me" which you'll hear already) "Eagle" Many associate it with progressive rock, and say that its sound is the closest thing to the style of Pink Floyd or other similar groups. others relate it as a tribute to the Eagles group others relate the lyrics to 'Juan Salvador Gaviota' which is absolutely clear that it is a song that you never get tired of listening to, its almost 6 minutes are absolutely rich, and the joint voices of Agnetha and Frida, armored together with the magic of the 'Third Voice', literally fly like eagles , just as the instrumental ending leaves us with that feeling of flying in the sky for many it is the best ABBA song in my opinion it is 9 points, absolutely brilliant... but there is more, and in this same album "Eagle" ABBA performed it in a television presentation in Germany 1978 (in a reduced version, together with another song from this album "Thank you for the music") and in the opening of their TV special in Japan 1978 and has a special filming in Stockholm for the movie "ABBA The Movie" (with Agnetha already pregnant, although it is hardly noticeable) and it is performed in their concerts of the 1979 Tour in North America and Europe ABBA made an official video for "Eagle", reduced to just over 3 minutes, without one of the choruses and the final instrumental part, for better dissemination in the media

Native American's talk about spiritual oneness with animals, eagle's being the noblest. The flute you hear is a callback to western movies of old... song(The Good The Bad The Ugly) which hints to the native belief the eagle as all seeing & knowing.

That is kinda what I was picturing when listening to it! I guess I just forgot to mention it in my comments on the song. The Good The Bad The Ugly soundtrack definitely rings a bell when the flute comes in.

That's a great ABBA song that usually doesn't get much love, I recommend "I'm A Marionette" from the same album. "Eagle" album version is 5:51 min, but the official music video is only 3:49 min for some reason, the live version (ABBA at Wembley Arena) is a little different and longer with a 2 min guitar solo by Lasse Wellander - highly recommended. ✌

I had never heard the suggestion that Eagle might have been a nod to the Eagles band, but, as a great fan of both, I thought I could detect some vague similarities between this track and an instrumental piece from their 1975 One Of These Nights album called Journey Of The Sorcerer - which later became the theme for Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy.

I don't know where The Eagles tribute came from but I don't think so. This song is just about the bird. ABBA knows how to open an album. This and the last song, I'm A Marionette, kind of ties in together sound-wise. I love the electric guitar solos on both side songs.

Nordic shamanism more relevantly. cf 'Kvitravn' (white raven) by traditional Norwegian Dark Folk band Wardruna. The Sami (Lapp) people of Scandinavia would certainly be a more immediate source of inspiration. No Americans required.
