Seems to me, after looking up the translation, that the song is about suicide. Förgätmigej mean Forget-me-not, like the plant.

It kinda sounds like suicide for me now too, my context for the song is about what seems to be a man's wife (Posible) dead, now the man has enter in a deep depression and all he hears now is the wolfes howling probably referring to feeling alone, and now that his life happines is gone forever he thinks to take a shot to end it all (As a .12 caliber is mentioned in the lyrics).
