I agree totally with everything you said. Poor pay has only ever damaged the industry, but there will always be some people who will be desperate enough to work for a low wage despite there being a driver shortage. Likely enough those who have only just got thier licence to get experience. Where I work the pay is good, the job is thankfully 100% legal, albeit we have to run around like a blue arsed fly tipping at drops at least it gives me exercise rather than sitting at a tesco depot waiting to be tipped. My only small gripe is not having the same unit every day. I can't stand having a dirty truck so quite often it's cleaner when I'm finished than when I started. But all told considering the advantages we do ok. As far as mercedes are concerned I don't like them either, but at least the actros is better than the shitty heap that was the axor!!! No doubt we'll be delighted with their rented presence before Xmas when it goes manic and doesn't calm down until after Easter.

Hi I was hoping you might be able to answer my question. Is it possible for a hgv driver to work 15 hour days back to back? As I was reading that you can only work 9 hours a day. And 2 10 hour days twice a week. The information seems to be very vague and was just wondering if you could 3 15hour days a week then have 4 days off or does that not work? Thank you for reading my comment and hopefully being able to answer my silly question. Like the content and have a good day 😊
@moxxiiblue98942 жыл бұрын
Your maximum driving time is 9 hours per day. Twice a week you’re allowed to drive for 10 hours. 3 out of 5 days you’re allowed to work for a total of 15 hours a day. Work isn’t just driving. It’s also tipping and loading, administration, your breaks, etc. So yes, you can work 3 days of 15 hours back to back and then have 4 days off. But you’re only allowed to drive 29 hours total in those three days (2x10 hour drive and 1x 9 hour drive)

@@1r0n_does_Evony in the EU? Wasn't it just a temporary change to help during covid times?
@misterflibble97992 жыл бұрын
@@1r0n_does_Evony Quite a few corrections needed to that. 1. You are correct in that, if you want, you can do a 15-hour day as a split-shift. This comprises of one rest period of at least 3 hours taken during the shift, and a second rest period of at least 9 hours taken at the end of the shift. The 9-hour rest period must be completed within 24 hours of starting your shift, which is why you end up with a 15-hour day. 2. However, you can also do a 15-hour shift by taking a 9-hour reduced rest period at the end of your 15-hour shift. 3. So, what's the difference? You can only take a reduced rest period a maximum of three times between two weekly rests. You can do the split-shift arrangement every single day if you want. 4. The increase in driving time per day is (was?), I believe, temporary, and I think it has already expired. From the links I can find, it allowed 10 hours of driving on up to 4 days per week (normally 2 days per week), but that this wasn't a "blanket" increase - the operator had to inform DVSA that they were using the exemption, and they also had to comply with other requirements - for example, show that the increase was necessary, and show what they were doing to ensure that it was not detrimental to safety. The Government website still states the existing rules (9 hours per day, extended to 10 hours twice a week).

Raul makes good vids, but one of the problems with the uk haulage industry is Eastern European drivers. They have kept the wages low and employers have loved this. If so many had not come over, there would have been a shortage of drivers and wages would have gone up. I know loads of Eastern European drivers and they are great lads, but they are mercenaries. They just want money and don’t want to pay tax. I hope Ltd does not come back for bigger companies, it should be banned for every driver. It’s just tax dodging.

Raul has spoken about this in previous videos and makes some very reasonable arguments. Personally I believe you are repeating what you have heard other people saying because it's really easy to just say this stuff and it says ok without actually having any data or demonstrating any evidence for what you are saying.
