Reuven, alone among the Benei Leah, always saw the greatness and the leadership role of Yosef. He was the first to rise to Yosef’s defense before the sale by running to get help from Ya’akov; later, when confronted with Yosef’s demand that the brothers bring him Binyamin, it is Reuven who first spurs the brothers to do teshuvah. Reuven’s gift was having an ‘ayin tov, a generous perspective, towards others. This gift of having special vision is alluded to in the name his mother gave him (“see a son”).

There is something deeper that the Rav didnt explore. If am Yisrael is the beginning is it also a condition precedent? Meaning if the mitzvot are dependent on national unity and lack of sinat chinam, one should focus exclusively on unity in order to create a more powerful base for what comes after. For example, if you start a business or fund a nation exclusively by debt, your interest payments burden the future generations and prevent you from spending that money on other productive things today. If you save and then start your business with your own capital, you cant grow as fast because you are normally starting with a smaller amount…but the fruits of all your labour are yours. So I wonder if we worked on getting rid of the sinat chinom debt, what would be the future….

Sefer hayovlim which was written thousands of years ago says in Perek 34 that the sale of yosef was on Yom Kippur Is there any source connecting the sale of yosef to the tenth on teves? I’m aware of the one recent rabbi quoted but that seems to go against what has been written before thousands of years ago Does anyone else say this ?

I must however admit that I'm really bothered that at around @37:36 an inconsiderate guy/girl has their phone ringing It's so disturbing, takes our ADHD generation (in which is hard enough as it is to concentrate!), out of the Torah energy the Rav is expertly and learnedly harnessing. How hard is it to turn one's phone on silent or off for one hour?! It's so rude and inconsiderate to all. For future, R' Breitowitz, perhaps request at the beginning phones are off or on silent, and then if a phone goes off begin shaming people. It's unacceptable and so rude to others. People need to have some basic respect for the Rav, those present, and those watching the recording and TURN THEIR BLOODY PHONES OFF/ON SILENT DURING A SHIUR. Avraham

The fast of the Fast of Gedaliah was not about the destruction of the 1st Temple, but the complete exile of Jews from the Land. Perhaps with 7.5 million Jews being in and living in Israel, the majority of Jews in the world, we should show appreciation to HaShem by annuling that particular fast. Or well, there are a bunch of people who want to "off" our Prime Minister. So maybe we have not learned the lesson of Gedaliah.
