OMG thanks for posting this segment! This was my first rave... it was so surreal when we saw 60 Minutes filming there. I had this on a VHS tape. No smartphones then of course so this is awesome to see again. Not going to comment on the story. Makes me too angry to think how filthy and dangerous pills have now become because of Australia's self-righteous war on drugs. I wouldn't be the person I am now if I hadn't had those first experiences, didn't touch alcohol till my late 20s and that's the only drug that ever messed me up.

I was born too late. Literally 1996. I can't find any happy hardcore raves locally in Sydney, do they exist anymore?

Happy hard 4eva, if ur not a Sydney raver ur never lived, the Sydney raver cut from a special breed. Tabacco kills more ppl every year but that’s socially excepted. If they closed down Cabramatta in 90’s would it stop the heroin problem!

Bro I'm a Cabra boy it started in the 80's with the Italians & Romanians my father was the 1 who introduced large scale heroin importation into Cabra it wouldn't of stopped shit remember when Cabra was red hot & it moved to Fairfield then Liverpool Im a ex raver from the 90' & a ex addict it's all about knowing your limits & having a good crew I was at the phonesian club the party was Apache & Anna didn't die from MDMA she died from internal drowning

I started going to raves in 96 here in Sydney and haven't really stopped since. I've partied all over Europe ibiza Germany Holland France England Spain Eastern Europe been some incredible raves/techno parties. Amount of mdma I've consumed it's scary really is. I guess we never really knew the long term affects I consider myself very very very lucky. I know some that haven't been as lucky I'm a father now and would be absolutely mortified if my kid even did 10% of what I did I'm doing everything I can to avoid it was it a wasted youth I'm some aspects YES was it fun YES would I do it again YES

Having been through the scene in the 90s myself that mothers attitude to her 14 year old daughters drug use is horrific … truely horrific. I’d ring my kids necks if I found out they were taking drugs more so for having lived it myself..,
@sydney_rave Жыл бұрын
That's your experience and that's fine. My parents and many others I knew back then were honest and open with us about what we for up to. I'd rather be open with my parents than sneaky.

@@sydney_rave Sure and I get that but some 30 years on when I see how the lives of my brother, his friends and for that matter my friends were so negatively effected by the choices we made as teenagers I wonder what effect some tougher consequences may have had.
@sydney_rave Жыл бұрын
I understand your point of view, and yeah the drugs definitely did impact many people negatively. However huge amounts of people at raves took drugs and had no negative consequences at all, many of the people are now very successful in their jobs and have great family lives. It's pretty hard to be so generalised against the sporadic use of party drugs and experimentation as a youth when it only majorly negatively impacted a smaller amount of people. IMO it's like arguing against the use of alcohol because it's ruined some people's lives or killed them or caused fights or other anti social behaviour. Everyone is entitled to their opinions tho and I respect yours. I wouldn't change my raving past for anything, I met so many amazing people thru raving and had so many awesome experiences and went all over Sydney to areas I'd never been to before and partied all night in some amazing venues and I honestly saw no fights or ODs or really bad behaviour.
@sydney_rave Жыл бұрын
One thing I'll point out tho (and this is just my opinion) is the drugs these days aren't the same as the 90's, back then ice wasn't available and ravers weren't generally into cocaine and heroin. It was mainly xtc, speed and lsd and weed, and also many people went to raves straight. Ice is far more addictive and dangerous and I wouldn't want my kids or friends using it either. Being ultra strict with kids and young adults isn't always going to work out well with drug use either as some will rebel etc. When I look back on mine and my friends times raving in the early 90s for the 5 or so years we went to them, only a few lost the plot, most didn't. However in saying that I think 14 is way too young to be doing drugs and going to raves at all. I started when I was 17. I also saw the age of some of the ravers get lower and lower as we hit the mid 90s. When I first started at 17 we were the younger ones there and the crowds mostly consisted of 20 and 30 plus year olds. So I do agree with you about that mother's attitude towards her 14 year old daughter going to raves and her ignorance or blind eye to what was going on. Imo 16 plus for going to raves. The human brain needs to develop and school should be a priority at 14.

Not back in the 90's, they were mostly held in venues that didn't sell alcohol and allowed all ages, generally 15 years and older.
