Rave Racer Arcade

This game takes everything from the previous releases, adding some graphical and handling improvements. In Ridge Racer and Ridge Racer 2 games for arcade machines there is only first-person point of view, but in Rave Racer third-person point of view was added. A new soundtrack was also composed for this title, it consists of 12 songs.
In addition to both tracks from the previous games, two new tracks with various side roads were created for Rave Racer. The four tracks are: Ridge Racer Short, City, Ridge Racer Long and Mountain..

Some trivia; There was a planned PC port that would have utilized the PowerVR graphics card, but it was cancelled.

Rave Racer is an arcade racing game that was released by Namco on 16 July 1995. It runs on Namco System 22 hardware and could be played by two people per cabinet for up to eight players total when up to four of them were linked together. It is the third arcade title in the Ridge Racer series and the follow-up to Ridge Racer and Ridge Racer 2. Compared to Ridge Racer 2, Rave Racer adds two new tracks as well as the ability to play the original two, various handling changes, force feedback steering, and improved car and racetrack graphics. Like Ridge Racer 2, Rave Racer featured a new soundtrack. The new tracks contain various side roads, but some of them take more time than others to complete a full lap of the track.

I'd like to see Namco-Bandai's Arcade Classic Series include the RR arcade trilogy, just a straight port (no changes or 'remastering' needed)... with Rage Racer and RR Type 4 included too of course!

Call me crazy, but I find the first arcade Ridge Racer (and it's update RR2) a lot more appealing visually. OK, maybe Rave Racer pushes a few more polygons around due to the Super System 22 hardware-upgrade; but it's color-palette is so gray-ish, and then there is always that grayish slight fog... it looks dreary like an underground garage. RR1/2 looked far more vibrant and cheerful for me, it was all that 90s classic "arcady-look, while Rave Racer already seemed to aim for more realism, which it still could not achieve, so it was neither fish nor flesh and it's just so... ah. I don't like Rave Racer's looks. :P
