It's a very popular piece, but Ravel himself didn't understand why audiences loved so much and considered it one of his least interesting pieces.

Really? That's funny. It will be like that. The song an artist thinks is their least interesting will be the most liked. Same thing happened with SWV and their song "Right Here". They thought it wad boring and it's one of their biggest hits

@@DigitalRuler48 yeah you can never truly guess what will be popular and what won't. In Maurice Ravel's defense, I do actually see where he's coming from. Bolero is essentially just 17 minutes of the same melody being repeated with arrangements of different instruments.

@@Titanandenceladus That's probably why it was popular. The repetitious nature is kind of like a hook and makes it catchy like an earworm. It's easy for people to follow and latch on to. Sometimes simple sells

@@DigitalRuler48 that is very true. If you do wish to go down the Ravel rabbit hole, so to speak, there a few suggestions. If you like music that tells a story without words, check out either his Mother Goose Suite, or Daphnis and Chloe, both are gorgeous works. I'd also recommend Left Hand Piano Concerto, which is heavily influenced by the jazz musicians that toured through Europe in the 20's and 30's.
