When I was about 14 and knew nothing about inequality in the music world, I remember my friend violinist telling me that the guy she liked switched form violin to viola and left me in that blind admiration thinking that he got "that bigger and better violin" and how damn lucky he was.

Thiiiis is the piece that has the most boring part Ever written for a bass You play a C and than a G And than a C and than another G On and on for pages Why does every other instrument Get something better to do? If it's not a melody At least there is enough variety To keep them awake Oh but than I thank my lucky stars When I think How much worse it would be To play the drum

Yep. It's really hypnotic playing that part - to the point of hypnotizing yourself into a semi-alert state. Of course the music is hypnotizing to look at too so if you don't look around, watch the soloists, wink at, make eyes at, players, conductors, etc. you will go INTO A DEEP SLEEP so watch out.

As a violist who played this with my college orchestra last year, I am both laughing and crying a little at this. I did genuinely enjoy it towards the end, once things pick up, but those first 7 and a half minutes (at least) are quite the bore...

C.R.Faith Music Yup! That'll be it! 2 snare drummers, in fact, and I've played both parts. One plays the same 2 bars for 15 minutes, the other rests for 10 minutes and then joins in with the same rhythm! Powerful, meaty, exciting, thrilling, but easily boring if you get tired of it. The passion the viola players show in this video is exactly what is needed every time!

I love this, and yes, I've made a viola jokes (who hasn't?) but these strumming bits are there for very important reasons. Without them, the music would be so lifeless. Ride of the Valkyries has an incredible tune, but without the strings doing their thing, it would be so bombastic and unmemorable. The same thing with Bolero, the music would be so dull and boring. A lot of classical music is like that. Without a foundation, everything falls apart. Okay, back to making viola jokes.
