Btw, because I’m in Australia in the bush I have Aus Magpies. Perhaps one of the world’s greatest songbirds. They love music when I play it and often mimic. I have one now outside who is trying to imitate you!

It’s me again. I adore this piece of music and know it so well on piano. But have you ever thought about transcribing it for cello? For the melody line? I’m desperate to get good enough to play that but also to learn looping like Zoe Keating or dubbing. Another way of providing all the rest but keeping the melody lines for the cello? Cate

I did hear a cello version on youtube, the link is: kzbin.info/www/bejne/jXirq3erfK2hf8U I decided to just learn the piano version because piano has a sort of pureness to it, due to no vibrato on piano and just having such a clean sound. But still the cello version is nice of course, maybe one day I will try it.

Absolutely superb rendition! Thank you for such a sensitive interpretation of such a well known piece (to me anyway). So how is the cello playing? From a former pianist and now cello student…

Thank you very much☺️ It's going okay with the cello, I've been learning for 2.5 years now and I notice that it becomes more difficult to keep making progress. Nevertheless I like to keep trying and just keep it as a nice alternative for piano sometimes. When did you start cello?

Only 5 weeks ago! I’m like your crap only worse! Keep going and post a cello piece when you can. It’s such a glorious instrument and I hear that from time to time even in practice.

@@Catherine-inSA hahah don't worry you will get better! Actually I recorded the piano accompaniment for a duet this week, now only the cello part left. Not sure when exactly, but I hope I will record it within a few weeks.

@@FrankMeijeringcan I ask you what has slowed your progress after 2.5 yrs? Or at least what aspect of the instrument is not progressing? With your background the theory/practice stuff sounds simple enough. What in particular do you feel has slowed down? With thanks, Cate

@@Catherine-inSA I think it is partly just because in the beginning you know absolutely nothing, so each thing you learn causes a huge improvement. But later on it naturally takes more to get the same improvement as before. Kind of as with my piano too, the last few years I have improved but it's only minor details. And I think secondly it may be because my studies have been very intense lately and my practise is not super thorough anymore. But honestly what I find most important is that I keep playing, eventually I will improve.

You are very musical, this is not an easy piece to play. Also, kudos for playing it all by heart! Does it take you long to learn them by heart?
@FrankMeijering Жыл бұрын
Thanks for all your comments on my videos! I'll just respond here. Lots of my videos are quite old haha, so I agree with your feedback on those :) But yes usually the learning by heart is the most time consuming part. I'm also busy with my studies so sadly it takes months of trying to remember it. Then before recording, I usually have a few days/weeks of intense practise to clean it all up

@@FrankMeijering LOL I studied for two music degrees full time for 9 years and it took me ages to memorise everything, too! You have a whole other life in your aerospace studies, PLUS all this music. This is truly extraordinary 👏

The vibrato in the link you sent me totally wrecks the Pavane. I tried to send you a link to a version of Mahler’s 9th without vibrato but looks like it didn’t pass muster with KZbin.

Yeah it's a matter of taste but I also feel like it doesn't really fit
