It's more interesting to look at character development. In the first season, she is just a child who is afraid of her powers. In the second season, she is calmer and understands her powers better. Nah. Agatha's is (was?) completely borrowed from the Darkhold - she just didn't know it. Her 'black magic' is her innate power as a child of Trigon (an Old God). Much as Wonder Woman has her own power set as a 'child' of an Old God. Only Raven is much more in tune with her magic in non physical terms than Wonder Woman ever was as far as I can see owing to her training with Constantine and the fact that Wonder Woman channeled her godly power into strength and speed.

Seriously, what is it? Dark matter, energy, her soul…? It looks like shadows but Gar described its touch as feeling like” razor blades.” I’ve been watching the show from the beginning and I still don’t know for sure.
