one of my best friends that i met in league. it was a norm game. i was playing fizz mid and he was playing talon. he had some connection problem and didnt get connected until i was 6. so with it just being a norm game, i told him to free farm till he got to 6. as soon as he was 6 i rewarded him with a fish and sent him to the grey screen. he added me as a friend after that game. we have been friends for about 5 years now. this last summer he got married. so as a wedding gift i gave him a glass fish.

It's typical though. Played an ARAM a few days ago where our Trist wasted flash and heal before even seeing the enemy, W'd into the full health enemy team 3 times to die, and then whined after the game that I built Lethality Xayah. Pretty sure she was ranked Gold or something so it wasn't just a new player or a bot. My runes didn't save so I had Dark harvest anyway so I figured if she was already throwing the game from minute 1 I was going to try something different. Gotta love the backlash from her and her two buddies with defenses like, "Trist did more damage than you" as if her doing 1000 more damage with 10 more deaths proves that Trist didn't int those first 3 deaths and that I was the true reason we lost.

I had played maybe 4 games with Viego when he was released (before Gwen and Vex and Sentinels). The enemy Yuumi calls me out in /all, demanding I return her master. She'd seen the Ruination short in her dimension hopping with Book, she knew I had a lead with spies and wraiths all over who could help find her master. Both teams groaned; I knew then what I had to do. I answered in character, complete with caps lock and sighs, demanding she return ISOLDE! My love!! and maybe we'd help, that of course yordles get caught trespassing all the time but I'd never let one go for desecrating my Queen's memory, for mocking my kingdom and denying the mist... But of course the only way for Yuumi to know was to join my side. She declined because she knew just by looking at me I wasn't warm. I cried a bit about a cold, black and broken heart, if only I could save her we'd be able to help... I reminded Yuumi that Camavor's an island with lots of fish. She was tempted but Book hates water and the Spring was water too... This went on all game, back and forth, adding more insults and stipulations and reasons we'd betray or work with each other, all based on voice lines and general lore. My team won because I popped off too many times. I possessed Yuumi last. Danced at the nexus and typed, "Off to find Master... right Book?" We all cringed and lol'ed at the dumb role play, Yuumi didn't think I'd take the bait and I'd kept her on her toes all game. But the best part was when I played Yuumi a couple days later. The Jax on the other team suddenly started telling us about a Viego/ Yuumi crossover game he was stuck in earlier and how it was the most amazing dumb thing ever. I just typed "ISOLDE" and he laughed. I never admitted to being the cringe Viego, so if you're out there Jax now you know.

I haven't played league in years, quit when the toxicity was starting to get unbearable, but out of curiosity what would your proposal be to fix the toxic environment of league. I see two issues currently, the inters who get butt hurt, and the people who insult their own teammates, causing the inters to act. The guys attacking their own team are almost as bad as the inters, and I don't think you are going to fix one without the other. Not sure what Riot thinks all chat is going to do though lol. While it is true that sometimes the other teams players are toxic, you can just mute them immediatly and go on with your life. And you can do the same for teammates, that's true. What is also true in my opinion is that most toxicity comes from your own team. So disabling all chat is simply not doing anything really. It may stop the occational toxic enemy player from flaming or whatever to you, but it won't stop everything else that is actually bad in the game.

With what they've been talking about doing recently, seems like the Dev team at riot decided to take every single hard drug known to man while thinking of what to do for next patch. As someone who hasn't touched league in years, the issue is both sides are part of the problem. I quit when the toxicity was starting to get bad, and my understanding is its only gotten worse. The guy insulting his teammate, is almost as much to blame as the guy who gets butt hurt about it and ints. Its a viscous cycle people can't control their mouths and want a scape goat, and some one decides they have the power to make that jerk off suffer. The inter is worse... but only marginally. People in league have just seemed forgot that they are playing with and against people, and no longer give any basic respect to anyone.

I remember having a late night doing league and the other team duo adc/sup had there adc dc’ed, we asked if it was a remake and was told they were reconnecting. We decided to wait and even let them catch up on levels before we started laning. We ended up becoming friends and had many nights of fun doing 5 mans. Pretty sure this whole chat toxicity issue has an easy fix... Riot already chat-bans people temporarily. Just change it to be permanent, namely: if you are chat-banned you can only read the chat and can't write in it. Done - now the good actors can speak freely to each other about the game, strategy, etc. and the bad actors never get to talk again. There's higher stakes so people will be incentivized to not be abusive in chat for no reason. The only drawback to this is that people can just buy a new account whenever they want - that sorely has to be fixed too. But the above change can be made without fixing this issue, and will leave us either the same or better than before (an incrementally good change). Also, would you pay $10 for a new account because you said some shit in chat, or would you just not say the shit in chat? :shrug:

A little fun piece of trivia: Everybody knows that all chat has a settings toggle, and you used to have to enable it first. But people seem to forget TEAM CHAT also has a toggle. You can turn that shit off and play your games, none the wiser. I think there might be a secret "honor block" if you do it, since you explicitly gain honor ranks if you have "positive interaction in chat", but fuck honor ranks if you can just turn off team chat.

Flamed people together, got banned together, got demoted togehter, and eventually we reached gold from bronze 5. About 3000 games together. He was my best friend in league. In season 2 on the begining of every match i used to type "For princess Luna!" on all chat. This is what led me to meet people who shown me what fandoms are, people from fandoms shaped me into who i'm today. I would propably never come back to league if not that one thing, i also would not have find my wind for my wings irl. Disabling allchat cus you cant ban people jsut from using chat... It hurts so much
