"The simplicity of the vanilla creature" is especially fitting after your Aetherdrift previews. Also, always happy to see a Sharktocrab.

Midnight prerelease at the local store for this set was so fun - every time someone played a Sharktocrab they'd announce it to the table and then you'd get this response from people around the store echoing "Sharktocrab! (Sharktocrab!)"
@Wulfram77Күн бұрын
There are 3 other cards that are identical to Storm Strike but with different names. For some reasons Wizards loved putting story moments on this specific combat trick design

i believe the set mechanic *was* the concept of treason

I wasn’t playing Magic when this set came out, why aren’t they all wearing hats?
@altromonte15Күн бұрын
Jace was the guildpact, so he had made all head-covers except hoods illegal

s-tier shitpost!
@camerondomerКүн бұрын
No one had ever died on Ravnica yet, so no detective hats existed.

How do I know the theme of the set if they don't have appropriate headwear?
@phycofox858Күн бұрын
Prof is somewhere seething now about hats and race cars lol we love him tho

"I assume most of Ravnica would be fine with an oligarch dying" funnily enough, the oligarch is among them, because Afterlife

The cards in this set were so charming and simple I enjoyed them! Miss vanilla creatures and single abilities

We had them in Foundations, and before that in MoM.

2020 makes me not want to go to conventions even now in 2025 😅

Yeah, it really killed my eagerness for going out to play with people other than my regular playgroup consisting of family.

To be clear, we wanted to go to conventions in 2020, sickness had other plans.

Sharktocrab + proliferate was a really fun cheap deck on Arena when War of the Spark was the newest set.
@eirikastokes9652Күн бұрын
My favorite memory of this set was playing in the midnight pre release and being so tired that all my brain remembered was "23 spells" so i had 23 spells AND 23 lands and couldn't understand why I was losing lol
@jackwright7879Күн бұрын
Sharktocrab is a fish but the new shark bois in Aetherdrift are sharks. But lions are cats…
@KryptnytКүн бұрын
They have since updated Sharks as a creature type and Sharks are NOT fish (They will not make everyone happy with this change)
@MordalonКүн бұрын
Ikoria was when they made Shark its own type. The same set with Shark Typhoon.
@ertchinКүн бұрын
Sharktocrab is also now a shark, at least. Which makes it a quasi-"Centaur Archer" (a creature whose subtypes match its name), if you count - to - as octopus.

@@ertchin…which you absolutely should because who wouldn’t!

Sharktocrab was a staple of the simic deck in that ravnica block's standard meta.

If not the land, I would take the Oligarch. I remember Orhzov being fun and busted in this environment.
@MercraКүн бұрын
Gotta feel like I'm taking the Spirit of the Spires. Fliers are good in limited, it's flexible while leaning Orzhov.
@ExperienceJacobКүн бұрын
I'm with you, only being one colour is good in this pack.
@ExperienceJacobКүн бұрын
You're probably going to wheel a B/W gold card too.
@ankhi3585Күн бұрын
Yeah it's definitely the most flexible pick, works well with the BW spirits and with UW toughness-matters cards/flyers.
@alphahelix7997Күн бұрын
I love the Humongulus!
@jaydenyamada2916Күн бұрын
I seem to remember fireblae artist most from being brutal in 2x2 draft. If not the land, honestly any uncommon is good, depending on how much you want to commit to a theme.
@ankhi3585Күн бұрын
Justicar's Portal can do a lot of things but they are all way too situational. There is no card worth blinking for an etb so you are left with a very situational answer to a removal/trick and a combat trick that only works if your creature would already trade. I tried it once or twice and it was just stuck in hand while I was getting drained by Ill-Gotten Inheritance or stomped by big Gruul things.
@TK-_-GZКүн бұрын
I am thinking the fountain. White is very strong in this format, and blue has pretty good control as always, might help splash a counter spell in a white black or white red deck

hey great vid as always one thing i noticed is this teaser joke while on vids like edsc there cool i personaly dont like them in a 'short' vid like this as u basicly see the same joke twice in a few minutes obviously only my thoughts and in no way something that ruins the viewing pleasure keep up the good work
@myanrueller91Күн бұрын
Probably Fountain, regardless of whether it’s for value or not. It’s good enough to let me splash, even with the gates deck, and leaves me open.
@Just_Another_MuffinКүн бұрын
Doing my part for engagement. Taking the Sharktocrab
@emkerr90Күн бұрын
I will engage by saying I would probably also take the solid playable that gets me halfway to my next draft in store credit

I would take 'Spirit of the Spires'. or final payment!

@camerondomerКүн бұрын
Probably fountain, splash potential out of simic or orzhov plus fixing, plus $$. Sharkocrab is a strong second, but...
@moutonrustiqueКүн бұрын
Sharktocrab, or possibly Fireblade Artist, but probably Sharktocrab.
@rpgking7Күн бұрын
Always the shock land, but didn’t draft the set enough to know what was better to grab. Probably would have tried w/u depending on the next couple picks.
@ep1phany62Күн бұрын
Opened the single pack of these I had, recently, and got a foil shock😋 Foil Wasn’t much more valuable than the non foil though.
@SpinballwizardКүн бұрын
Value drafting I take the shock, but draft power probably Sharktocrab.
