As other people have said the app designed for it isn't very user friendly, I've found the FileHub easy to manage with other apps. Thank you so much for this thorough and comprehensive review! The video and the comments section have answered so many of my questions prior to purchasing the FileHub. My primary goal for this device is to back up my travel photos without lugging around a laptop. The back-up system on my last few trips has been to retain my photos on a series of SD cards, but also transfer the files to folders on my laptop (where they will upload to the cloud assuming I have reliable WiFi - which I frequently do not). This leaves me with two hard copies of my photos - on the SD cards and on my laptop hard drive (I can't count on cloud storage). I'd like to do something similar with the FileHub - back up my photos to an external storage device while also keeping the original copies on my SD cards. I've learned from other viewer's questions that the FileHub has no 'smart' capability to recognize the files it has already copied, so it will simply perform a mass "dump" into a dated folder. I have three questions about this process: 1. Let's say I back up the files from SD card #1 to my external storage on the night of January 1st, but I continue using SD card #1 on January 2nd. When I re-insert the SD card and back-up my January 2nd files, the photos from January 1st will also be copied into the folder labeled January 2nd. At this point, am I able to delete the January 1 file from my external storage using my FileHub phone app? 2. Let's say I back up my files from SD card #1 on the evening of January 1st, but then I remove SD card #2 from my dive camera and back that up on January 1st as well. Will the FileHub distinguish between the two different SD cards or will it create one dated folder and dump everything into one place? 3. As I understand these SD card file transfers to be quite slow, I assume I will be performing my back-ups overnight while I sleep. When midnight hits, will the FileHub cease uploading to the folder titled "January 1" and create a new folder called "January 2"? Thank you so much for attempting my questions. I understand if you don't know all the answers, I'm just grateful to you for the time you've invested in helping others figure out all this technology stuff!
@TheTechnologyMan5 жыл бұрын
Thanks CsSchoolwork!. 1. Yes - but always double check!. 2. There should be 2 different folders with different folder names. 3. The folder name will be based on the date and time you start the backup.

Hello! First, thank you for your video reviews. I am thinking about getting one of these to use an external hd as a NAS server to my PLEX Media Server, will it work?
@TheTechnologyMan5 жыл бұрын
Thanks Geraldo Fisher Neto! Guess that could work but have not tried it. But there are better options - for example if you have USB ports on your router, you could connect the external hard drive to the router. Or can't you just connect the external HDD directly to your PLEX server? You could still setup as a share as well to use as NAS? Maybe I have misunderstood your question.

how long would it take to transfer a 100 GB SDXC Memory Card, UHS-I Class 10 U3, through the hub transfering it to a Samsung t5 or any ssd?
@TheTechnologyMan5 жыл бұрын
The bottle neck is the speed of transfer from the SD card interface - which is USB 2 speeds - ie slow. Best I got was 17MB/s regardless of type of card or what I was transferring to. So you can work out how long it will take based on that best case scenario. RavPower only spec a maximum speed of 14 to 18MB/s which was in line with the speeds I got.

Very informative video, thank you. A question though. If I insert an SD card and USB stick and use the button to copy RAW files across on 'Day 1' of a holiday then do the same again at the end of the second day, will the process copy only new 'Day 2' images or will it copy all files, including re-copying 'Day 1' files?
@TheTechnologyMan5 жыл бұрын
Thank you. No it's no intelligent- it'll just dump everything from the card to a dated folder every time you press the button. The recommended workflow is to copy everything across. Check it's all there and then delete off your memory card. Perhaps create a second backup to another USB stick or drive if you want to be safe?
@cliveb94755 жыл бұрын
@@TheTechnologyMan I took delivery of one today and I do not think it is sufficiently intelligent. It does not appear to remember (log) the files it has already backed up/copied. My routine is to use a single memory card for more than one day and to want to back up each evening. I have a memory card from my last holiday which contains files from several days. I backed the card up successfully. A few minutes later I backed it up again and expected it to establish that there were no new files on the card. Instead it created a new folder on the target disk timed a little later and started to back up the 91 files again. Last week I was on holiday for seven days and took almost 800 images. If we imagine I take 100 per day then on night 7 I will have 700 day 1 images, 600 day 2 images, 500 day 3 images etc. and by the end of the week I will have 2,800 files when I have taken 700 images (and need the space for four times the quantity taken). Is there a setting I am missing? Or can I not use the one-touch button but have to manually select the files to be copied each night by file date?

No you're not missing anything - that's how it works unfortunately.
