Though the whole market is referred to as soweto market, but there 4 markets in 1. The first is the "City market" followed by "Old Soweto Market" then "New Soweto Market " lastly is the Soweto "Vegetable Market"

Tomatoes you bought for K10 is k6 in mutendere east or even K4.i don't know what happened maybe there's shortage in soweto. Food is cheap in Zambia. Only fruits are expensive especially apples because we import.

Do you know why The woman asked about Kerosine? Those women are in business of floor polish and Kerosine is the main raw material. They boil those red oxide powder with wax in Kerosine to get floor polish. Of late Kerosine is in short supply in Zambia since it's use is quite limited

Possibly being ripped off. But tomato market prices sometimes fluctuate drastically depending on supply, and season. I haven't been in Zambia for a few years and things may have changed, but we once experimented with growing tomatoes and wholesale prices for a large box of tomatoes were typically between K80 and K150 (if I remember correctly) but at the extremes could drop to K5 or go as high as K400. That could explain it.
