Raw Video: Chopper 5 Over Deadly Crash at Bay Bridge Toll Plaza

The crash occurred in the early morning hours of Saturday, December 2, 2017, as 46-year-old Si Si Han was just minutes into her shift inside the No. 14 toll booth on the Bay Bridge in California. Daniel Berk, a 32-year-old Foster City man, was driving a rented box truck and had another passenger in the vehicle with him when, at 5:11 a.m., he slammed into traffic waiting to pay tolls and then collided with the No. 14 toll booth. Han was killed inside her booth, while Berk and his passenger were ejected from the box truck as it broke apart in the impact. Both Berk and the unidentified passenger have been described as being “badly hurt” and were taken to Oakland’s Highland Hospital for treatment. Berk was arrested on the day of the Bay Bridge toll booth truck crash and charged with driving under the influence and vehicular manslaughter.

I drove thru toll booths like this with wide loads but would slow down to very slow to squeeze thru. It was automated so you could drive thru at speed in these booths if you had a transponder. The booth operator would tell me not to slow down but I said that with only inches clearance I could kill you if I hit the booth. They had one of their booths taken out by a wide load not long before this that killed the worker inside and yet they abuse us wide load drivers for trying to save their lives. Crazy.

Just looking at this mess, one can tell that this driver of the Box Truck was moving at a high rate of speed to do this much damage. It is a wonder that he survived the impact! To hit the End Cap of the Guard Rail ,go over the top and tear off the Toll Booth with the Lady inside an throw her out the Booth then hit 4 Vehicles an tear the truck apart, he was moving !!! Time to start regulating these Box truck Operators a lot better.
