@@RAWMUSICTV Such a surreal crazy memory. My friend's band Akuzma was opening for Static-X in San Antonio, TX, and before the show, I smoked a pipe with them behind the venue, Backstage Live. In the dark, I thought I was smoking pot until I tasted black tar heroin. I was floored at the time and his subsequent overdose mindfucked me further.

I was friends with Wayne in high school. He was exactly the opposite of what you would think. He had longer black hair that was always combed perfectly and wore nice sweaters. Quite possibly the cleanest teenager I've ever met. Very polite and all the teachers loved him. He was quiet but could definitely get up to some mischief. He could get away with anything. It was kind of shocking to see him as Wayne Static. I was never really into that music but will always love him for the time I knew him.

I saw Static X open for Megadeth on Halloween night in 2000. I went to see Megadeth and had no idea who Static X was. Since it was Halloween lots of the crowd were in costumes. Static X came out with Kiss makeup on & the theater exploded with energy when they started with Push It. I`d never heard anything like them before and it changed my life. I was blown away by their sound and live show. I barely remember Megadeth afterwards. Static X has been my favorite band ever since and changed my music preferences forever. I never met Wayne but his passing saddened me in a way no other celebrity has. RIP Wayne, I will forever miss your music.

Thanks for this history! Here’s more info! Before Wayne and Kenny moved to LA, they were in a band called Stygian and I saw them play in Chicago (we had mutual friends.) I said they should join me out in LA and did give Ken and Wayne a place to crash while we formed Drill. Drill was cool, but eventually I bailed because I felt a bit limited musically…although I still loved the guys. Besides playing on sessions like Power Rangers 😊, I did go on to play with an unknown singer called Rod Stewart for over a decade and counting. I will always remember Wayne as an intelligent, articulate, soft spoken and creative guy and nothing like the F bomb dropping public persona.

This album, to me, has one thing in common with all the following music: the Anti-Christ superstar album, Rammstein, Rob Zombie, Ministry, Filter and NiN The one thing that binds them together is industrial, and the fact that I never considered any of them Nü metal. People seem to have a very vague idea of Nü metal, and while I couldn’t explain the genre in musical terms I was always able to distinguish Nü metal from industrial metal (Nü industrial would work better to distinguish itself), and Nü metal from rap core. There seems to be no such boundary for others
@wyattcole5452
@wyattcole5452 11 ай бұрын
If Limp Bizkit or Primer 55 are Nü metal, then Nü metal is an umbrella term and on top of that ICP has made Nü metal songs, and have done it Better than Limp Bizkit, like Primer 55, who are just Limp Bizkit if they were better at either genre they’re tryna put together

Thanks for this awesome piece of history. My band, Mygrain, used to open for them in '97 and 98 all around LA. One correction - the band was actually known as simply "Static" until they were signed by Warner Bros. There was another band called Static and the label had them add the "X" to their name.

Wayne always kept things fun and from becoming too serious which i completely appreciate. they would hang out by the buses after shows, talk with people, shake hands, smoke a bowl (not wayne). Ive never met a band that spent more time with the people just hanging out after shows, just super chill group of people.

I met Wayne at an Ozzfest in the late 90's. Dont remember which year. He was lookin for a drink. Which is odd, because he was a metal frontman on tour, I remember wondering why in the hell he was asking me where to find a drink. Perhaps he was trying to score some dope on the downlow and I was just too young and clueless to figure out what he was getting at. Coincidently, I was going through a box of old shit from when I was a teenager recently and found his autograph on a ticket stub from that day. It jogged my mind regarding Static X.

I listened to this album on loop for like 2 years, and it remains one of my favorite albums of all time. I know that I can just turn it on and lose myself in the nostalgia and memories that I had trying to find my way through life during those years. I still have it, still rock it, and love just throwing it on to remember things. I have an attachment of music to events in my life, and this album was quite succinctly a pin during a pivotal moment in my life. There are few news alerts that I remember vividly, and one of them is Wayne's passing. He's right up there with Dimebag in shock of it actually happening.

Saw them open for Megadeth in 99 not too long after WDT was released. I didn’t really know who they were at the time and I was blown away. Their music was so raw and in your face but with feel and an unbelievable energy. Next day I went out and bought the album and it’s easily one of my top ten favorite albums of all time. Around 2001 they came back around on tour and had an autograph signing. I went and got my copy of WDT autographed by the band. Still have it and I’m glad I got to meet Wayne. Such a sad ending for an amazingly talented dude.

I used to run security for a club in Placentia California "Club 369". We hosted Static-X a lot during those early years. I instantly loved these guys right away. Nothing like them at the time. Always tried to make them feel at home.

I met whayn in a little music store in worcester MA. A friend and I just happened to be going to buy 2 Wisconsin death trip CD s and we got to cut the line and meet the whole original band and I got a signed autograph from all the members on each of the pictures of them. Small world. That same friend and I saw them live after that. ❤ awesome

Man! What a great video!! I remember when W.D.T. came out. "Push it" quickly became my least favorite song on the Album. OH! DONT GET ME WRONG!! "Push it" was really good but the rest of the album was amazing. Machine was even better. RIP Wayne!! Ill never forget Ozzfest when i got to see you guys in St Louis.

One of my favorite memories of listening to Static-X when I was playing Need for Speed Underground with some pals when “The Only” was the song for my race

I remember meeting Primer 55 back in 2002 and their bass player loved my Static-X “Machine” shirt with the lyrics for “This is Not” on the back: This is not my life, this is not my home, this is not me, I HATE THIS!

Saw Static at Family Values Tour when STP headlined it. Deadsy went on then Static after. I left directly after their set and I completely regret not staying for STP. At that time Static X was strictly the only band I cared about and needed to see. RIP no one can replace you.

It was nice hearing Wayne's side of the story of what's going on in the band and about his life during the making of these amazing albums. I do miss him and hope he's rocking in the afterlife with Tera.

Met Wayne a long time ago when they toured in a RV. He was hella cool and greeted us before tearing it up at the Huntridge in LV.

Wayne was awesome and a real good person. The guy could talk about anything and make you feel like you have known him forever. I'm glad my friend Rob introduced me to him because he was a good person to know. I was bummed out for weeks after he passed, but grateful to have had a chance to know him briefly. 😢

Had tickets to ozzfest in 99- had to get a refund because after columbine they canceled some shows. Missed out on Ozzy, Manson and Static X. Those were the only bands that I and my best friend wanted to see. A tragedy, yes, but I still get aggravated sometimes when I think about it. Two jerks robbed so many people of so many things wtf. 😢 Loving your channel from Savannah ga USA 🇺🇸 🤘💋

Did you go in 2001 then when Manson made Ozzfest part of his Guns God and Government Tour? Or 2003 then when Manson came back and was at Peak Golden Age of Grotesque Kicked out of Disneyland Manson? I did...Static X was there a couple more times as well. I'm just saying, there were opportunities.

I remember seeing PM5000 in a small shithole club in Boston mid 90s and thinking this is going to change music and opened new doors of music for me and my friends who were heavy into metal and sick of grunge. I still have WDT in my CD rotation. RIP
