Absolutely. Not just the song, but this cut. No more awful celebrity mangling of the very hard-to-sing anthem we now have, written by an Englishman and set to the tune of an old English drinking song... just roll this track at every sporting event, etc. and I will happily stand with my hand on my heart. Ray pretty much nails it here.

“There was one night game a year. On the 4th of July, the whole sky would light up giving us just enough light for a game. We played our best because I guess we felt like the big leaguers under the lights of some great stadium. Benny felt like that, we all know he was going to bigger and better games. Because when we watch those lights like regular kids, he was there to call us back. See for us, baseball was a game. But for Benjamin Franklin Rodriguez, baseball was life.

I heard this song in my head the day he closed his eyes up until we laid him to rest thinking about all the things he had seen and done and faced over his lifetime. This country can be so beautiful at times and so ugly. Im glad he got to see a life later on where he could bear the fruits of his long labor. Thank you and love you Grandpa- rest up.

This is one of my favorite pieces he performed. I remember my father getting to work with Mr. Charles years ago. He hadn't been feeling well and they wanted to be sure and have a pianist available to cover for him if need be. I was pretty young and can't remember it very well, I just remember Mr. Charles people handing my dad the music and telling him to learn it so well that if no one could see him playing, they would think it was RC on the piano. Fortunately he was well enough to play all his shows, so my father ended up just playing some duets and couple dualing piano numbers. He had an amazing work ethic. Getting to work with Mr. Charles was one of my fathers fondest memories. He and his talents are sorely missed.

Oh beautiful for heroes proved, In liberating strife, Who more than self, our country loved, And mercy more than life, America, America may God thy gold refine, Til all success be nobleness And every gain devined. And you know when I was in school, We used to sing it something like this, listen here: Oh beautiful, for spacious skies, For amber waves of grain, For purple maountain majesties, Above the fruited plain, But now wait a minute, I'm talking about America, sweet America You know, God done shed his grace on thee, He crowned thy good, yes he did, in brotherhood, From sea to shining sea. You know, I wish I had somebody to help me sing this (America, America, God shed his grace on thee) America, I love you America, you see, My God he done shed his grace on thee, And you oughta love him for it, Cause he, he, he ,he crowned thy good, He told me he would, with brotherhood, (From sea to shining Sea). Go and search the true meaning behind the US National Anthem. Was a pivotal moment in the war against Britain during the revolutionary War period specifically the war of 1812 it captures the true spirit behind the American Patriot. I hope they don't ever change it.

God Bless Ray Charles. This man unequivocally sang the best most American version of America the Beautiful in existence. There is no other. Ray Charles personified this great land and that personification is Ray Charles. RIP. We all hear this version sung above the bangs and lights of the fireworks as the banner waves.

Me and my friends in Scouts would light off fireworks and play baseball like in the Sandlot. When I became an Eagle Scout l, me and my other friends who are Eagles listened to this song, we took a moment to look at the sky glowing from the fireworks bursting in the sky and took time to appreciate it deeply

This song is up there with the Mount Rushmore of American national anthems 🇺🇸 I know it’s a tad bit early, but Memorial Day just passed so I had to shoot off fireworks while listening to this song today. It’s never too early to remember all the brave veterans who served/died for our country 🇺🇸 ❤️ 😢

@@davinder106 the music and the melody can cause a stir and a tear. That's the beauty of music. You don't need to understand it, to be moved by it. Nor does it necessarily need words. Beethoven's 5th creates a feeling of tension, and there isn't a single word. Mozart's Requiem creates a feeling of sorrow, and the words are all Latin. I don't know many people who speak Latin, and yet, without know what the lyrics are, are still moved by Classical music.
