This has always been my favorite doors song. Ray by himself gave me chills. The lyrics got me, but it really was Ray's vox that got me the first time I heard the song. I've always admired Manzarek's talent.

I saw the remaining Doors play ten years ago and Ray said something there I will not forget, he warned us that the times now were very much like how the 1950s were and impetus to use the doors of perception so we should be very weary of it. He was so right.

Downright awesome because it sounds like a classical piece. Even though it came from a Rock song Ray Manzarek made it sound beautiful. The Crystal Ship is one of the best love songs of all time.

That is because Ray had classical training which ment he studied Bach so he naturally incorporated it into his arrangements he brought Bach to Rock.
