We use to listen to Ray Stevens songs on road trips with my grandma. Miss you grandma. Laughing with you and singing these songs will forever be in my mind.

Might interest you to know that Ray performed this on an Andy Williams special. Little Jimmy Osmond was "Jones" walking across stage in a cowboy outfit and "Mama" Osmond was playing the sax. Check it out on Ray s Y T channel.😅😂

On this day in 1965 {February 10th} the Coasters performed "Along Came Jones" on the ABC-TV program 'Shindig!'... Six years earlier on May 18th, 1959 it entered Billboard's Hot Top 100 chart; eventually it peaked at #9 and spent 12 weeks on the Top 100... It reached #14 on the Billboard's R&B Singles chart... On June 28th, 1969 Ray Stevens charted with it; his version peaked at #27 on the Top 100 and stayed on the Top 100 for 8 weeks... R.I.P. Jimmy O'Neill {Shindig's host, 1940 - 2013}...

this was my first exposure to Ray Stevens when his version of the song was on the charts. it took a few years to find out it had been a Coasters original a decade earlier, when about every prime time TV show was a western.

I first heard this from a tape my parents had (I think it was a Greatest Hits). I had no idea this song went back this far!

I also know this song from a "Best of..." album, in the '70s. I was a few years old, but I still remember a red smokin' shoe on the cover. Also songs like "Pretty woman" and "Roosevelt and Ira Lee" from the same album...

That I'd like to see. All I know is that the only release of his that I own was never made on CD... Surely you Joust. I still have my tape of it and wish it would come on CD.

The original song is so dull in comparison to this version. Only Ray Stevens can take this song and make it super funny!!!
